experience with PDW hehe that's a first I have seen on a job requirement.. do I also need a good decompiler? some free consulting United States Code Title 18, Chapter 119, Section 2511 http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/18/2511.html (2)(g)(i). think there is grey area there and its legal since its on the air and you can download some software like PDW or MultiMon and decode it? ha... Thanks SpudGunMan, Grey is an understatement but I am interested in the technical feasibility. I am interested in mapping fires as early as possible. If not through POCSAG, would you suggest an alternative way to reliably capture data (not voice)? |

few ideas of ways to deal with this, using public info that is ok to tap into.. for example in Seattle http://www2.seattle.gov/fire/realTime91 ... PubTab.asp another related product http://www.depiction.com/ basically the idea is that you give the software out to a social network of users that report in when they see things, that way your network is self supporting by the social network. So I am a reporter for your software I am also a nerd by nature and keep APRS on, while I am out trying to get a youtube video of the fire that might make me rich and famous I click on my fire software with a APRS link that fire is here -> then it updates via whatever to your server network that collects and reports the data in combination with people also reporting that listen to fire scanners etc as for technical feasible.. anything is possible :) just depends on how much you want to pay |

If everyone was like Seattle, I'd be a happy man. I am working on a number of social media avenues but there will always be gaps when there is not sufficient participation. I do have a solid budget if I can find the right solution and resources to work on it. |

What is the source of the data you want to capture ? Will it be a device that you construct/control or is it from an existing source ? How much data do you need to push ? |

Clark, call Kevin Nida with the LAFD- he's their radio comms guy and may be able to steer you in the right direction. |
