I have been nosing around but have not come up with anything.
Is there any software that will follow Moto Type II 800 TRS? e.g. SERS

Thanks. I'll check them out.

So I played around with this tonight. Getting all the drivers/software installed is not that streamline. Thankfully I was able to piece it together using instructions nickcarr posted along with some at the SDRSharp website.

I got to say the antenna that it comes with is just complete junk. I can see someone thinking they don't have things setup right because the reception is so freaking bad.

I finally stumbled across 101.5 while holding the antenna in my hand. Then I was able to find couple other stations. This at least let me know I had all the software installed correctly.....

Attached is video of what I believe to be the SERS control channel.

I'm hoping the mag antenna I purchased will greatly increase the signal quality. We will see.

Be sure to go in to the CONFIGURE button and set the gain accordingly. The gain settings on the newer RTL chips are quite a bit different.

The stock antennas are junk. You're better off getting an adapter and plugging in to an external antenna. The trick is finding out where the gain needs to be before it starts overloading for what antenna you're using.

I noticed that on some parts of the spectrum I can have a higher gain with less overloading -- this just depends on your location and how much RF soup you have to deal with...

Yeah I did purchase an adapter and have a mag mount antenna coming.
With regards to the gain. What am I looking for when playing with the gain setting? Am I simply trying to listen for the best audio quality?

For four bucks at an electronics surplus place [Shameless plug - Surplus Gizmos in Hillsboro, OR]...I put this SMA-F on.

Works like a champ, plus, ducks from handhelds work nicely with the SMA. Then the SMA-BNC allows for easy connection when mobile. Be sure to use a high speed USB extension cable to allow a little flexibility between the BNC - SDR - laptop.

Nein. Go to a known signal on the band. Example: For VHF, go to the NOAA channel 162.550... and adjust the gain so that the signal is still strong but the background noise should drop. I'll double-check my value later tonight.

Right. But am I evaluating the signal quality by ear? Or is there some SNR meter built in to the software to view this?

The spectrum window in the top middle is a SNR meter. :P 8)

The 0 to -100 dBM correlates to a typical S-Meter just not in S-units. I'm not sure how accurate his scale is... so don't take it for granted.

An explanation on the differences...

Alright. Thanks for that. Will wait for the antenna I purchased then play around with it some. It's pretty much useless to test things using the antenna is comes with.

I found this adapter that basically did what mrk did without soldering

Yep any adapter will work... there are several types you can use. Use what's best for your antenna setup.

I was able to get mine working to decode ADS-B. Using a wideband discone antenna I have a spike out to around 90NM with an average range of 40NM. I'm using ADSB# to feed adsbSCOPE, Virtual Radar, and PlanePlotter. I'd like to get an actual 1090 antenna to see what kind of range this is capable of. Still, not bad for a $20 TV tuner and a scanner antenna.
