Apparently the bulk of the difference from the 817 to the 818 is:

- Display being sourced from a different vendor due to the existing display being obsolete and no longer manufactured.

- Same thing for the final. Oh, and the new one is set for 6 watts instead of 5.

- TCXO included rather than being sold separately.

- Slightly higher battery capacity.

From what I've seen so far it is the same radio introduced 17 years ago.

How hard is it for Yaesu to get a clue after seeing what Elecraft has done with modern technology ?

I was hoping it was April 1st today but it isn't...

You forgot the effervescent HF spectrum... from 100khz to 56 Mhz & 76-154 Mhz and then 420-470 Mhz.

Well since Vertex is owned by Motorola this kind of makes perfect Motorola-logic... ;o)
