Hi all- I am headed to Boise for work in a few weeks. I'm going to be staying near the airport and working at NIFC. Besides the fed/military stuff, what else to listen to in the area? I know LE is mostly encrypted, and I'm not keenly interested in local FD traffic.

Any railroad nearby?

What's the closest weather transmitter?

I was down there in mid-June and my Kenwood mobile has all of the AAR frequencies programmed in its zone. At least half were probably active at one point or another. Boise is a pretty active hub for RR traffic.

Lots of hospitals in the area. Probably two-dozen helo flights every day flying between H roofs and incident scenes. They're active on AM aircraft but I can't recall the frequency off-hand. I believe they have a shared hospital freq as well on VHF that they all share.
