While driving on I-90 near N Bend, I heard a fire dispatch for "Mayne Island" on 154.92, the area freq for WSP in Olympia, sometimes I get this fire dept at home. Anyone else hear this?

It was a fire page on 154.92 for a simulated drill involving a propane spill about 8:30 Friday morning, so the link you showed makes sense. There was a good rf null on the freeway just before the main N Bend exit, then it disappeared. But I have heard the same paging at home sitting in the driveway, albeit weaker. Wondering where their tower is located. I've heard both sides of the conversation in the past.

For shure Crest system page out Victoira BC, I would say some good skip is what you caught, I have caught skip in the past on a Seattle freq in 854 mhz area, not uncommon.
Mayne Island is part of CREST.

Two Points: Canada does NOT list each and every user. Most Police and all RCMP or Federal users -- in Canada - are omitted. Others are listed, but not always. Second, Canada has for a long time -- used any open radio frequency for any type of use. Un-like the US -- that used to "Block Allocate" certain frequencies to certain types of radio services -- (PW - Public Safety, IG - General Business ) any radio frequency that is open in a specfic area -- can be used by any user that applies. This is now true in the United States as well. However -- other specific rules also apply. 154.92 is reserved for use by a State Police agency only. The Tacoma PD used 154.92 for about 25 years, on a "special FCC wavier" (KOA-801). If the WSP did not have a State license on 154.92, it would now be available for use by anyone, including IG Business radio users. 45.02 Mhz ( A State Police Channel ) was once used by the Weyerhaeuser Company - for business and logging operations in Southwest Washington State.

Very True. City of Toronto actually screwed up on the paperwork and got one of their sites for the Toronto Police Service listed in TAFL. They wern't happy about that :)

You say you heard this outside North Bend on I-90. It's very possible that the State Fire Academy Instructors were using this for drills.

I noticed last week that VHF Hi band was wide open.
DX broadcast out-capturing semi-local stations.
It's also likely it was actually from Mayne Island.

I headed south for the weekend before I could play much. I have a straight shot north to Canada, but no time to play, eh?

I don't think so since they said "Mayne Island Fire" It has come in weak before on the commercial radio but it would of been really strong if it was the fire academy.

well I monitored this frequency over the past few hours and indeed
it is a fire dept paging frequency for vancouver island and possibly
gulf island fd's too that belong to CREST

heard sever page outs for north island fd re: med calls
also heard several page outs for sidney fire dept also located on vancouver island.
this transmitted seems to have a very wide area of coverage
as Im on the mainland and hear this transmitter 5 by 5.

As for listing on sectrum canada(industry canada)web site,
it is a normal practice to NOT to list any police forces either
federal or local and military frequencies on thier web site.
As for local goverment fire dept freqs they do list them
but not this one????

example take from spectrum canada's web site

154.800000 154.800000 DEEP COVE TO SQUAMISH BC CITY OF WEST VANCOUVER FIRE DEPT
154.800000 154.800000 DEEP COVE TO SQUAMISH BC CITY OF WEST VANCOUVER FIRE DEPT
158.970000 154.800000 DEEP COVE TO SQUAMISH BC CITY OF WEST VANCOUVER FIRE DEPT
158.970000 154.800000 DEEP COVE TO SQUAMISH BC CITY OF WEST VANCOUVER FIRE DEPT
154.905000 154.905000 QUALICUM BEACH BC (MOBILES) TOWN OF QUALICUM BEACH (FIRE DEPARTMENT)
154.905000 154.905000 QUALICUM BEACH BC (PORTABLES) Bow Horn Bay Fire Protection District

Btw.. Im listening to one of your medical response frequencies
in either everett or seattle on 155.220mhz give by the street address's.
could be one of the AMR freqs for those area's
only here the calls being dispatched so I suspect that it is a simplex
frequency????

Glad I'm not the only one! I thought I was losing my mind the first time I heard a fire dispatch come across that frequency! I heard it in the same area as you did....around North Bend and, if I remember correctly, it was late at night. Have you ever heard of "knife edging"?! And as far as it being used by instructors at the State Fire Academy, I think they use Red Net (153.830) out there... when they do use radios.
