The January 2006 issue of MRT (Mobile Radio Technology) had a story about the failures of the CREST --- Motorola Trunked VHF system. The outside consultant found that the system did not have enough radio frequencies, had too many busy talk groups (ie: Public Works and non emergency government units), and worst of all --- were forced to operate in narrowband rather than wideband mode; which resulted in poorer signal propagation and diminished in-building penetration. (See report at
http://www.crest.bc.ca ) I knew there was a reason I saved those tin cans and kite string !!! "CREST calling all cars !!! Be on the look out for narrowband radios. That is all."
