Anyone monitoring the military 380mhz trunked system being installed in the Puget Sound area? The bad news is most likely after it is installed and running it will be totally encrypted, that seems to be the trend with these systems.

I had posted here about a year ago that this was comming, looks like it is here. It does not appear to cover McChord or Lewis at this time, but they were included in the plan I saw long ago.

In June when I visited, McChord was still using their 400Mhz system, ASTRO digital.. Most was unencrypted.

385.8875 is loud and clear from Victoria BC. I would say this site is located at NAS Whidbey Island.

We were monitoring the new 380 MHz trunked system last weekend. Not all the activity was encrypted, and the system seemed to be in use at some locations. We were hearing what sounded like civil engineering or base maintenance operations. Encryption seemed to be on a radio-by-radio basis, some were and some were not. A fair number of active talk groups for a weekend.

The system is definitly trackable with the Uniden 396T, but didn't get to try my PRO-96 or 796D...

The spectrum analyzer is showing three strong signals, but the scanner is picking up four. The weakest of the three on the spec analyzer is about 20 dB down from the strongest. Search mode on the scanner is saying they are on 386.1625, 386.075, 356.675 and 385.8875. I see a few transmit bursts from time to time on other freqs near the strongest ones.

During my travels the last few weeks, I've picked up all twelve. Looks like the Navy is leading the charge...

I was able to track it with my 396. I started hearing the system come online back in sept/oct.
