Post subject:  LERN Patch

Sounds like Tacoma PD put a priority call on LERN last night. Sounded good in East Pierce County. However, I'm not sure I was able to hear the dispatch center, only car to car traffic. I wonder if they decided to patch over after the Eastside thing.
T68, good job. As prior Law Enforcement, I know the resposibilities involved in 'running code', let alone a pursuit.
On the VHF radios in the deptpartment I used to be with, LERN was way up past HEARS, SAR, Mt Rainier Nat'l park and so on. We didn't have MARS.
I surely would'nt want the hassle of switching a bunch of channels if I was primary. Besides, as you stated in the other post, some people don't even know whats on thier radio.
I wish the radio shop (and the car shop when they set up the interior) would listen to some inpute from the guys/gals using the equipment on the road.

I know my shop does. The radio templates that I build are always supplied by the user agency. We don't make those kids of decisions.

We have a POC for each agency who has to make the choices, best on what's best for the whole department. We do have a lot of users that want "special" stuff in their radios. History has proved it to be problematic with training as well as not cost effective.

I heard Tacoma briefly go to LERN for Comms with Gaurdian 1, then I was hearing Gaurdian 1 on The Tacoma Trunked system talking with officers on the ground.(Shots fired/Male with a gun)Wed. night

Tacoma radio layout was done by a group that included a number of patrol officers. Then the layout was field tested with about a dozen patrol, detective, etc . After that then the final layout was approved by all. Only after all the steps was it put into the field units.
