The July issue of MRT (Mobile Radio Technology) reports that Washington State, both the WSP and DOT, have "deployed" an advanced digital voice and data communications network, from Alcatei. It replaces the analog system by allowing the state to manage its public safety communications network from a single platform and to allocate bandwidth according to application. It also claims that "other agencies" are expected to join the network later this year. I believe that the author only speaks an infant level of a long forgotten "dead" language known only to used car sales folk. It may sound worse than the real thing.

I think they bought some Alcatel uWave or channel banks, and it can remotely managed and groomed. Until the State SIEC process is completed, they aren't going to be doing much in the way of major upgrades.
