The Port of Seattle is conducting a simulated airplane crash drill involving several King County fire departments.The crash is involving a plane carrying 150 passengers. The frequency they will be using during this exercise is South King Fire 4 (TG 38544) and it is happening in the area of 24th Ave.S and S 150th St. in SeaTac. |

It should have been very realistic. I remember coving a real "Plane Down" -- just down the block. |

MTM, Was this the small commuter plane that went down in a snow storm at S.133rd and Military Rd.S or was it the Horizon Air "Dash 8" that had the engine fire and had no hydraulics upon landing at Sea-Tac Airport and crashed into the "B" terminal? I was a Fire Explorer with King County Fire Dist. 2 on the first crash and a Firefighter with the same dept. on the second crash. You train for these but when it happens, the real thing is different. |

Boy oh boy. Yes -- both as a matter of fact. The first was the evening after Christmas Day. I think both were Horizon Airlines -- if my memory is correct. Long time ago -- but things happen and that's why the drill was maybe short or boring -- but its worth every second -- if it will save just one life. Glad to hear you are doing a worthwhile job. You've got a good memory as it was what is now called "Horizon Air" but back then it was called "Harbor Air" and then "San Juan Air"....A couple of fatalities in the day of Christmas class and none in the terminal crash but might have been a lot if the American Airlines flight from Dallas was at the gat unloading.....thank god the flight was late and "your welcome". |
