Makes sense. They've been using that horrific 156.000 channel for what, 30 years? Some of their radios look like they were installed in the Carter administration... |

If it works, spend money you don't have to buy something you don't need, then raise taxes - Signed 'The gov't' |

Yes, why bother replacing an ancient system that barely works -any- of the time with a new one? Sorta like slapping twinkly LED lights on an ex-cop car for some dubious "warning power" when everyone else gets by with 4-way flashers. Where were higher taxes mentioned? I missed that part. |

I don't own any 'ex cop cars', I got bored of them after having like 10 of them... :-p I have an 80's SUV with an 80's lightbar, now.. :-p When weren't higher taxes mentioned? You think this is 'free radio upgrade courtesy of Kenwood' ? Unless Kent has money squirreled away, aka budget surplus, it will come from somewhere. What was wrong with analog VHF, again? |

Unless Kent has money squirreled away, aka budget surplus, it will come from somewhere. I was specifically asking where you saw Kent was "raising taxes" to pay for this system. I don't buy the "new radio system? They're going to raise taxes now!" strawman argument. TechnoWeenie wrote: What was wrong with analog VHF, again? What was wrong with the old/current DPW system? Well, for starters, I distinctly recall last year sitting in a city-owned vehicle (with twinklies, even) playing with the radio. I couldn't hit the repeater that, IIRC, sits atop the water tower at 98th and James (where the old ValleyComm was). Problem was, I was less than a mile from it in an open parking lot. When it WAS working, it sounded like hell. I could go on, but I think the real issue you're having here is that it'll be Nexedge, and therefore not easily monitorable (sans DSD). |
