I posted earlier about bad KCSO reception east of Snoqualmie Ridge using the EPSCA simulcast. Someone helpfully suggest I use KC Valley Comm instead. I guess I'm now in a bit of a quandary. Should I dump all my repeater sites and just use Seattle, EPSCA, and KCVC simulcasts? And if so, is there a good mapping documentation somewhere of which agencies are best tracked on which simulcasts? Many thanks. |

That's what I do. I believe that is your best bet. The Intellipeater sites are meant to be fill-in for what was deaf areas. You will only hear TG traffic with whatever agency is affiliated into that localized system. As an example I tried to use the intellipeater in Redmond up on Education Hill when I lived up near that area. However I would only hear Redmond PD. Occasionally FD or KCSO. It did not pass all the TG traffic I was hearing on EPSCA. Reason being that there we no radios using those TG's on that intellipeater. The only time I would was when a user had a radio affiliate into that intellipeater for coverage reasons. That has recently changed however being that Redmond now occupies the new FD STA 17 which is on 116th. I was always able to hear the same TG's on EPSCA so I always kept my scanner on the EPSCA system (when I was home) because all of the services were usually affiliated with the EPSCA system via some radio. The same thing is true for Seattle city TG's. There are times that I don't hear SFD on the EPSCA system. That is because there are no radios affiliated into that system. So if I want to listen to SFD I have do to so on the VC or Seattle systems. So this isn't a matter of mapping or coverage. It is how a "SmartZone" system works. TG's will only come up on the smaller fill-in sites when radios are affiliated into those sites. |

The best source I have seen is the Scannerstuff Northwest Frequency Directory 10th Edition. At the end of each TG entry is the best simulcast site - KING, SEATTLE, EPSCA, or PORT. |

I do have a copy of that - I've just wondered how current it is given it was published in 2007 (I believe - don't have it on this computer). But, definitely confirms I should be using KC Valley Comm for KCSO, which was my main problem. Thanks! |
