Hello I was looking at buying a bc996xt online and was wondering if it was a good scanner? I have had scanners for years but I miss having W.S.P since they went ditigal I live in central washington any info or help would be greatly appreciated and sorry if this is in the wrong forum

It's a great scanner. Not the simplest to learn, and you'll definitely need to use programming software to keep your sanity. As for WSP, if they go encrypted then no scanner will help; clear P25 and you'll be okay.

It involves rotating a knob and selecting a bunch of menu items.

The programming cable is included; you'll need a serial port. Or you can get a USB cable for $30, or a USB to serial adapter for about $10.

After you do what AT said, get yourself a program called "FreeScan". It's a free program and it will make programming a lot easier for you.
