Hey All! Just wondering how the Federal Justice Integrated Network system is coming along...

I still am getting control channel noise on 170.79 (170.7875) loud and clear here in Victoria, but no SYS ID is being broadcast yet...

I hear occasional traffic down south on the Vancouver or Baw Faw Peak sites, but as of late it's all encrypted. I do watch the control channels with PRO96COM and see quite a few radios affiliate with the sites near me, but I have no idea if they are all in service yet or still in test.

I think some folks in the Seattle area have reported that the system seems to be in regular use there...

Last time I heard activity on the frequencies up in the Puget Sound area, it was all encrypted

Rumor has it (cough, cough)...that Border Patrol radio 163.625 and 163.675 will be using the new system sometime this summer. The mobiles and portables have been programmed and are currently in use. They also will be encrypted.

I don't think so Brian. The system is a project of the US Justice Department, so I don't see the Forest Service being effected.

And yes, I suspect it's going to be encrypted most of the time... :-(
