Community Transit operates a 700 MHz IPMobileNet (IPMN) IP-based mobile data system and an 800 MHz Motorola conventional simulcast voice radio system. Both of these systems are managed over an 8-hop, TruePoint 5200 microwave network.
The 700 MHz IPMN mobile data system supports CT's Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) and Automatic Vehicle Locate (AVL) applications within the INIT -Advanced Public Transportation System (APTS). We are currently using this system for paratransit (DART) services and will be expanding to the fixed route fleet later in 2012.
The 800 MHz Motorola voice system is a 4-channel conventional simulcast system. This system is utilized by two different dispatch centers. Merrill Creek Dispatch is located at CT's central facility on Hardeson Road in Everett, WA. The second dispatch site is located at CT's Kasch Park facility off of Airport Road in Everett, operated by CT's current contractor for Contracted Bus Services, First Transit.
Community Tranist is in the planning stage for migrating this system to an industry standard P25 digital, trunked radio system using upgrades to the base station equipment purchased under this procurement and reusing as many components in the current system as technically feasibile.
The current radio system is comprised of nine (9) communications site locations.
Installation of the equipment is estimated to begin in the 4th Quarter of 2012 or 1st Quarter of 2013 and is estimated to be completed by June 30, 2013.

New sites:
  • Apple Cove, Kingston
  • King Lake, Monroe
  • Camano Island (Stach Site)
  • Bothell
  • Northgate, Seattle

Existing sites:
  • Kasch Park, Everett
  • 80th ST SW, Everett
  • Merrill Creek Operations Base (MCOB), Everett
  • Gunnysack Hill, Lynnwood
  • Frailey Mountain, (Darrington)
  • Gunsite Ridge, Granite Falls
  • Clinton, Whidbey Island
  • Queen Anne, Seattle
  • Tiger Mountain

You can read the RFPs for 700 and 800. The installation of the equipment will be provided through a separate bid.

IP MobileNet won the 700 contract. Contractor for the 800 has not been chosen yet.
