Considering that PSE obtained new VHF licenses for new frequencies, I would guess this process will take a few years to implement. I take it this new MPT system is not monitorable? |

Possibly...They have an MPT1327 system running over at Vantage right now, have for a few years. I haven't tried tracking it yet, but may. There's a decoding program for MPT systems out there on the web- http://www.linato.net/trunkview |

Cool thanks for the link. Yeah I'll give it a shot -- it looks lke it supports the Uniden scanners well. I got the impression that the new system PSE will be using is all digital -- but I might have misread that. |

I've used Trunkview for tracking a weird 220mhz system in the past, but there was never any traffic. viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2108 |

So I wonder who is building it out? Sounds like PSE bought up the old Northwest Telecom (division of Peninsula Light Co., a "rural electric coop") licenses... although most of the Securicor ACSB MPT 1327 gear got sold off at hamfests and Ebay by W7BBO  Problem then as now... the mobiles are fantastically expensive compared to "standard" FM gear, and the handhelds were HUGE... but may be competitive against Moneyrolla digital trunked stuff :?: Moreover the Securicor gear, at any rate, is "factory service only" as they supply NO information other than how to "hookitup and program" it... One of my ham buddies has done some investigating of the circuits employed in the TX exciter and receiver... This Securicor stuff has been using IF DSP 20 years before the hams (or anyone else)... Spent quite a bit of time running around various places in Washington during the Northwest Telecom buildout and tearout... Even had a mobile unit configured in "test mode" so display read RX level in dBm, installed in a company truck and got paid to cruise around the Tri-Cities area "drive testing" their trailer-mounted portable trunk site, parked on Jump Off Joe which I had helped set up earlier. Darn near made it to Walla Walla before things got too marginal, less than 50% copy at that point. Gear worked at least as well, maybe better than NBFM stuff! I suppose if you were going to track this you would need SSB capable RX with a SERIOUS dynamic range expander to get decent audio, and another one on the data channel. Typical site uses 5 frequencies, and the data channel rotated thru the 5 frequencies to balance the time on the PA's... Eric KB7DQH |
