I'm new to monitor the Snohomish County trunked system, and was wondering about what two of the IDs are used for:

1. ID #61680 is for "S event-phase 1 area event". What does that refer to? Is it for testing the system.

2. ID # 4816 is "SC Police 1 Snocom PD dispatch all cities". Is this really dispatch for all cities? That doesn't quite make sense.

Thanks for any info.

Mike

hi mike -

as far as the 61680 - usually i've noticed it seems to apply to 'events,' like a parade or other going-on where they put some officers to monitor crowds etc. not so sure about the other one, but i pick it up alot too.

have you seen some strange ones that aren't on the list? i've seen ones like 12 and 16 popping up from time to time - not sure whats up with em though.

Saucerater--I haven't been monitoring it enough to notice any unknown IDs.

Also have not heard any I-CALL transmissions, and was wondering how common they are.

I understand I-CALL to be radio transmissions between two of the system users that are not heard by other users. The 780xlt can pick those up if you select that option in the menu. I have seen I-CALL id's come up a few times, but nothing heard. Maybe the signal was not strong enough.

I-Calls are a little bit like "temporary" talkgroups for the exclusive use of two radios at a certain moment. They work much the same way to more common talkgroups work, except only those two radios have access to that particular I-Call.

So, what that means, is that if you have a strong enough signal to hear the regular talkgroups fine, then your signal is also strong enough to hear the I-Calls, if there are any. Not all systems use the I-Call feature.

Make sure that you have I-Call enabled in your BC780. Go into the menu to the relevant system, and one of the options should be "I-Call". "Off" will not monitor I-Calls. "On" will monitor I-Calls and regular talkgroups while in search mode. "Only" will monitor only I-Calls and ignore regular talkgroups while in search mode.
