Post subject:  Basic Trunked Question

I have a BC780xlt that I've never gotten around to using for the new (under development?) trunked system. I'd like to input the frequencies that are shown on the website, and start listening to the system, even if it's only under test.

What type of system is it? Motorola, etc...? This is probably a dumb question, but I can't seem to find that info.

Also, any pointers on getting the 780 up and running (other than what is in the manual) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You don't mention where you are, so I'm not sure what "under development" system you're talking about. Snohomish County's 800 system is still being built, Tacoma is putting up a system, and in some ways the King County System is still under development (Sorry Sean & Wiz!).

Do you have some other system in mind?

In any case, all three of those systems are Motorola Smartzone Type II systems.

As for the BC-780, I have very little experience with that radio. A lot of it is menu driven, and frequencie(s) and talkgroups must be programmed in the correct place or the radio won't trunk right. It isn't necessarily difficult, but having a basic grasp on how a trunking radio system works will help immensely in order to help understand why the radio works as it does.

Brad.

Thanks, Brad. Yes, I meant the Snohomish system. I have programed trunked systems into the radio before (King County's), but it' been a while. Anyway, thanks for the info.
