was wondering if anyone can give me some info on sno comm. i have not used my scanner for about 2 weeks, and turned it on today and usually listen to SNO comm police dispatch for edmonds, mountlake terrace, mill creek, and brier, and lynnwood when lynnwood is not on their own frequency. I can hear when the officers talk on the radio, but sometimes i cannot hear the dispatchers. any suggestions why i would not be able to hear the dispatchers? any help is appreciated. thanks

I'm still a newbie and outta town. I added the trunked 800mhz and i hear everything. I know recently that SnoCom and Pac has gone to trunk radio. hope that helps. thats all i know, i need some answers on how it all works...crazy.

Are you listening to SNOCOM via the VHF conventional frequencies, or on the 800mhz talkgroups?

For the most part, it appears that all the SNOCOM Police agencies have finished the transition to the Trunking system. So, the dispatcher may not be transmitting on VHF at times - even though the VHF to 800 patches are still in place.

Just speculation. I tuned in the VHF frequency this afternoon, and I was only hearing the field units coming through via the patch. I did not hear the dispatcher.

yea i was experienceing not being able to hear the dispatch, but still being able to hear the field units. why would this be? i have a bearcat 895 xlt and it is a trunking unit. do i have to enter the frequencies in again via pushing the trunking botton? let me know cause i am missing not being able to hear the calls. thanks

i found i can listen to sno comm via 867.200, but i get radio traffic from all over the county. is there some way i can just listen to sno comm: a different frequencey they are on. the one i am listening to now is a simlucast. very annoying because don't really want to hear everett PD or county units. any help would be great.

Ok - what you are listening to is one of the "voice" channels for the Trunking system. There are 8 voice channels in Phase 1 of the Sno County System (the 9th channel is a control channel).

I believe that particular channel/frequency is one of the first ones in line to be used by the system. So, you will likely hear a variety of agencies on it.

Rather than listening for an agency on a "frequency", you must listen to the system as a trunk tracking scanner, and look for "talkgroup ID's". A talkgroup is simply a channel on the user's radio dial. They are signified in the system as an ID number. For Uniden/Radio Shack Trunktracking scannners, most of the ID's for Type II Motorola systems are a 2, 3, 4, or 5 digit number.

That means your scanner should be set up to decode the data channel (868.3375 in the case of the Sno County Phase 1 sites). Once your scanner starts to decode that channel, it should be fairly easy for you to start plugging in Talkgroup ID's into your scan list to find a specific agency and/or activity.

Well, it appears that SNOCOM has pulled the plug on the VHF to 800 patch for police operations. You'll have to use a trunking scanner to listen to them now.

Now, waiting for the fire departments to make the switch.

can someone who is out there tell me if places like darrington, startup and skyomish are now on the trunking system also? thanks

My understanding is that north Snohomish County is part of Phase II of the system. They should be on the system sometime next year or maybe sooner. As far as Skykomish, they contract with King County Sheriff(two resident deputies) for police services. They can be monitored on the King County system on talkgroup 23152 (KCSO North) callsigns are either Charlie 7 or Charlie 77.

I've looked at the TG listing for the SNO County 800 system, and was wondering which TG's are the SNO/ KC Mutual-Aid TG's. Does anyone know? There are other TG's that appear to be for intra-county MA, but none that appear to be for joint county MA.

Anyone have any info?

The King County System and Sno County Systems are not linked together - so, there will not be any "joint" Mutual Aid channels.

The best that the field units can do is dial up a Mutual Aid Talkgroup on the other user's system.

Some of these King County Mutual Aid TG's are programmed into SNOCOM police radios (MARS, PSOPS-N1, PSOPS-N2, PSOPS-S1, PSOPS-S2), and a few Sno County Mutual Aid Channels may be programmed into King County Radios (PSOPS-N3, PSOPS-N4). The Sno County Fire Radios also have some King County Fire TG's plugged into them.

With this plan, when the Snohomish County Radio's dial up a King County TG, the Sno County radio leaves the SERS system, and switches over to the King County System.

Conversely, when a King County radio dials up a Sno County TG, then it leaves the King County system and switches over to the Sno County system.
