Last Wed. am I was on the Kingston to Edmonds ferry that was being shadowed by a CG RIB. The boat was closer than usual to the ferry. On 151.04 someone said to someone else 'are you monitoring the 800 radio, looks like the CG is trying to get a hold of you' So what gives? I know that the ferrys have an 800 freq they use - a part of the DOT system. I had it in and heard nothing. So the 800 radios in the bridge may also have a simplex channel in them. what I don't get is why if the CG needs to get a hold of a ferry wouldn't they use the marine radios? -m |

Mark, I just saw a post on another board. The USCG has a uses its own TG's on the Metro-Portand system. WHY ? Most likey because Homeland still does not have a total "inter-ops" system in place. Los Angeles County DOES and tests each tuesday and thursday. Federal, State, County and City Police, Fire and EMS/Hospitals all check in from 9 Am till 10 Am. Feds use 406.80 R 103.5, State 866.0125 R, 155.475 R 156.7, LA County 2 of 5 county-wide Mutual Aid channels: 484.0625 R and 483.7875 R LAPD and local cities use 159.03 R and 159.15 R all patched togather. The Marine Channels have NO security. Anyone could use the Marine channels and "Claim" to be USCG. |

My $.02 worth Mike, IIRC those USCG TGs were in place long before 2001, I remember copying traffic on at least one of them during a road trip in 1998 (from the top of Mt. Tabor no less!). Are they used more for DHS stuff now, and less "traditional" CG stuff? I don't know. I know that the few DHS guys I've met/worked with all used the dreaded Next-Hell... Your mileage may vary. |

Lots of users on the Portland-Clark Co system including BNSF/UP special agents as far back as the late 90's. Even a shortline railroad was offered a slot if they so desired |
