At least someone is trying to protect access to Rattlesnake!

I don't think "Doc" has a clue about the players involved from DOE to the Yakamas who have moved most of the antenna sites off the hill. I think it will stay closed as there is very little money to enforce any problems that would occur from 'opening' it up, including fire suppression.

In case anyone finds this confusing, keep in mind there are two Rattlesnake Mountains in Washington (King county and Benton county). This is the one in Benton county.

Hmmm... a number of government and non-government radio/microwave sites up there. I have personally been involved in a couple installation/removal projects up there... They aren't kidding about the high wind situation... Ground is littered with shattered radomes from commerical antennae that have failed over the years...

Access protection? From the West side, one travels through a bunch of farm/ranch land on a "road"... which when running up the side of the mountain becomes less of a "road"... more like a multilane divided trail!
One of my co-workers managed to get a Saturn sedan up there, but was
a white-knuckle drive, one false move and it would have high-centered
and a rock hole in an oilpan up there would be a disaster. My 2WD F150 made it up there, and I have driven a 2 ton boxvan up there once...

More than a decade ago a bunch of hams ran the June VHF contest from up there... complete with a 6 foot dish installed on a trailer... towed up with a 4X4...

I think they really want people and structures off there as much as possible. The observatory may still be there. I occasionally go over to Joe Butte but the rf is a killer up there
