I happened upon a Tuesday night net for the City of Medina, not sure when it started but in the 1830+ time frame. I heard them on 156.075/D174... not listed to Medina in the FCC records. (Sounded like simplex, not like intermod, same place on two dissimilar radios). They were using tactical callsigns "Victor number number", so I'm guessing it's a volunteer group such as CERT. |

Marine channel #61 156.075/160.675 Perhaps a USCG training exercise? |

61 isn't legal in the US. The US marine band starts at 156.250 (one exception... 156.050 is used in the midwest). |

156.075 is also used statewide in California, as CALCORD, a mutual aid channel...Or as a BS channel in certain rural areas  |

I read somewheres that in some non coastal states, the marine band is authorized for yakkin'. Like the Mid-West area I think. |

And to put it all onto a map... http://interceptradio.com/fcc.php?z=1&ccity=1&ccounty=1&cmap=1&sstate=WA&sf=156.075 Looks like none of them are near Medina. |

dog wrote: Ummm, Bellevue and Medina are right next to each other.... WSP's address in Bellevue is a contact/mailing address, not a licensed transmitter location for 156.075. The above map shows licensed transmitter locations, though as a caveat I should mention that WSP has a generic mobile statewide license for that frequency. |

OTOH, Medina's Emergency Plan includes this: Quote: The Medina Public Service Radio Group is a group of emergency preparedness volunteers, along with city officials, who hold and maintain VHF radios distributed by the City of Medina, for use during emergency. The group conducts a weekly radio exercise to ensure that radios are operational, to offer a forum for discussion of emergency communication and to provide an opportunity to practice the most efficient communication format for emergency use. Members of MAREN provide network control for the MPSRG weekly radio exercise and during times of declared emergencies.

Those nets are now on Sundays at 1830. The radios were issued to voluteers like CERT, Hams, neighborhood folks. The system uses a repeater located in the city. KE7MYV and K6HVI (me) act as net control. The radios holders are issued a V call. Mine is V61 and Doug's call is V58. After the service radio check-in the hams have a net at about 1845 on 146.44. The ham group is called Medina Amateur Radio Emergency Net (MAREN) and the public service radio people are called Medina Public Service Radio Group (MPSRG). - Gary (K6HVI) |
