What do you have now?

I'm pretty sure that all of Radio Shack's current lineup is rebandable.

The Pro-164 is crap. If you already get decent reception and don't plan on wanting to listen to anything new you probably won't notice a difference.
If you're only listening to the KC trunked system, the Pro-106 is overkill.
Here's some discussion on the Pro-107. It will come preprogrammed for King County, but the text tags are odd, some are wrong, and there are some missing text entries.

I think anything with at least TT III can reband, not sure on the specifics.

Hrm. I have a pro-164 and it doesn't suck - I use in the car. Admittedly my PSR-500 is a much better radio... and I got a PSR-400 (i.e. pro-163) at home and it's doing ok with broadcasting the east king county live audio here...

But I've not made the plunge to a bearcat model yet so who know what I'm missing out on :-)

For listening to KCSO, local PD's, and fire dept, the pro-164 is doing what I'm asking it to do. If you REALLY want to get out and discover new frequencies, figure out where stronger signals are coming from, etc. and use the search functions then maybe it's not the radio to use - I don't have the patience or haven't figured out yet how some folks do that. Some day I need to meet up with one of the folks in the forum and learn how to use the search functions on my scanner more effectively :-)

If you are looking for a non digital scanner I would recommend either the bc246t or the newer version of it the BC346XT. The 346XT has control channel data output that works with trunk88 and other disc tap software. If it weren't for the cc data dump feature of the 346XT I would not have gotten it as I liked my old 246t much better (that got stolen).

I agree with motorola20.. The BC346Xt is a great scanner. With high capacity NiMH I get about 14 hours out of a full charge. The new radio ID feature is pretty cool too.

I have 2 pro-97's nothing wrong with those for scanning this area. Good all around scanner if your not wanting digital. Are you wanting to replace your pro-97 ?
