Here in Bonney Lake this comes in weak and scratchy most of the time. When I can understand a word or two it sounds like parks or some kind of maintenance. Can you tell who it is?

Thanks~

I believe that's Cowlitz County public works. I'm not at home near my super database right now, so unless someone else can confirm it meanwhile, I'll check after work (about 7pm).

It is licensed to Chelan and Cowlitz counties. It is also an active license for KCFD #13.

I'm quite sure I would never be able to receive anything from Cowlitz or Clallam counties. Where would KCFD 13 be? I even have trouble getting anything further afield than Puyallup or Tacoma.
It doesn't sound like a fire department conversation though. More like DOT or such.

Thanks~

1- Nothing in my database for it; sorry. I know it's an input to Chelan county roads, doesn't make sense from your location.

2- FD 13 is Vashon Island, and last I'd heard they had gone trunked.

3- Cowlitz is a good bet from your area, I can get Grays Harbor S/O from my house in the valley. Note some locations referred to, and types of traffic heard for us. Can you decode PL/DPL tones?

From the resounding silence all day yesterday, I'd say this is a weekday type of work. I have a BC989T and don't know if it can decode tones or not, if so I don't know how. Can you explain please?

Thanks~

I have no idea what that is. Do you maybe mean the BC898T?

If so, here's what Uniden says:

Quote:
Searching for CTCSS/DCS Tones
You can use the CTCSS/DCS tone search mode to determine if the frequencies in your
area are transmitted with associated tones. If the scanner finds a CTCSS or DCS tone, the
type of tone and the frequency flash on the display. Then, if you store that frequency into a
channel, the tone is also stored in the channel.
Notes:
• You can search for CTCSS/DCS tones in scan mode, manual mode, or chain search
mode. You cannot search for CTCSS/DCS tones while the scanner is scanning a
priority channel.
• You might find frequencies that do not have a tone associated with them. This might be
because CTCSS or DCS tones are not being transmitted.
1. If necessary, press PRI to turn off priority scan.
2. Hold down CTCSS/DCS until you hear two short beeps. CTCSS and DCS appear and
begin to flash. If there is a break before a tone is identified, your scanner searches
where it left off when the transmission begins again. If a CTCSS or DCS tone is found,
the type of tone (CTCSS or DCS) and the frequency flash.
To exit tone search, press CTCSS/DCS.

You are right, it is BC898T, another senior moment. Believe it or not, I have actually read the manual, but understood about 1 word in 10. Thank you for clearing up that business of the CTCSS. I'll give it a try today and see what happens.

Thanks~

PL167.9 Conversations about "pick up bags on Meridian and (didn't catch), fence down completely blocking sidewalk over by Cottage Drive and Rainier, pothole at Rainier Vista."

Sounds definitely like public works, doesn't it? But where?

Thanks for teaching me a new trick with the scanner, I'm a long time listener, but never a techie.

Best I can tell is around Vashon/Maury Islands.

There is also a Rainier Vista in Seattle, or at least there was some years ago when we lived in Seattle.

Maybe one of these days someone on this frequency will give a better clue as to who they are..

Thanks~

Yeah, Rainier Vista in the CD. Sadly, there's both a Meridian and a Rainier Vista (dental office) in Puyallup.

I'll put the recorder on this one, and see what pops up.

How about the one at the UW?

I show that Cowlitz County uses 156.7 repeater output PL for their public works channels and most of their other channels as well.
