I just read this in a City of Burien council packet:

"The second project (from funds allocated by a COPS grant) will replace our nearly obsolete 800 MHz radios with new 700Mhz technology radios. Our existing radios were purchased prior to 2004 and cannot be updated to achieve interoperability with other jurisdictions."

So older MTS2000's that cannot be re-flashed, will be replaced with a 700 Mhz portable???

I'm slow, please help me to understand how these radios will work on the current KC system.

they are radios that will work with existing and re-branded systems.

nothing too crazy there was a thread on here about the topic.

Sure is interesting how many get confused about, and mix up, 800MHz, 700MHz, re-banding (not re-branding), and P25 digital.

"Older MTS2000's" can be re-flashed for re-banding.

Re-banding has nothing to do with 700MHz or P25. It is simply changing the 800MHz frequencies for other 800MHz frequencies.

Hmm, alrighty then. Well perhaps the City of Burien got it wrong then. I doubt highly that they would move to a different band, since that would make interop impossible. Maybe they meant to say that they are getting new radios, however ones that work after rebanding.

That is why I posted the excerpt. So I could better understand re-banding and all things associated with it.
