Last night on the radio news (KOMO 1000) I heard a term I wasn't familiar with in the greater Seattle area. This was when the police were surrounding the house in the 13000 block of Rainier Ave South while looking for the Lakewood killer. The reporter stated she had just talked with a "SWAT medic" who indicated there were about three SWAT teamers working the area. I am not familiar with the term "SWAT medic." Is this a SWAT team member who is a trained paramedic? Is it a medic who is trained to work with the SWAT teams when they are called out? I heard the term and curiousity has gotten the best of me. Thanks, Wayne |

Yes, that is exactly what a SWAT Medic is, a cop trained to the EMT or Paramedic level. http://www.tacticalmedicine.com/ Atypically, some teams even have MD's that have volunteered for the position, I believe they are brought on as Reserves. George Bush even appointed one as our 17th Surgeon General; Richard Carmona Mike |

historically, some swat medics are EMS workers trained to work in a SWAT environment. For some years AMR had a Medic on a Pierce County Swat Team. I don't know who their provider is now. |

Last I heard, 2 years ago or so, the Metro SWAT unit here in Pierce County was using AMR guys. Mark Renninger presented the class on the use of non-LE medics in SWAT service that I attended. |
