Any idea what is happening today? I'm hearing a lot of traffic from this TGID which is usually dead. Several different units from Fire to Police. There was a dispatcher monitoring this TGID as well. |

Quote: Any idea what is happening today? When someone is talking about a specific Talk Group can everyone state which Trunk Radio System they are referring to? I think this has been brought up in the past. |

Quote: Perhaps it's just me, but I would think the TGID number would give you this answer... So many of you think your experts! There are different Trunked Radio Systems with the same TG ID. I just verified this. One system might be fire and the other is police. All I said was if someone posts a TG list the SYSTEM. |

I didn't notice anything today out of the norm, there was a FD eating a snack in the grocery parking lot. Could have just been practice for the upcoming holiday season traffic and emergency management? mind you I didnt have a radio on me, I work 1.5 blocks from the mall's |

Only about 20 vehicles in the procession. It went from the Juanita area to the Jewish School at 156th and NE 4th. Held some intersections for their travels. For some reason...they requested a patch of this event to ITAC-1 (the conventional repeater). Not sure why, but the fire people were on that, and the police people were on talkgroups. If memory serves (and as the database indicates), ITAC-1 is at the Cambridge site in Federal Way. Why they would patch to that is beyond me - it had crappy coverage in the Kirkland/Bellevue area, AND the system was bringing up another ITAC-1 repeater elsewhere - either in Pierce (if they have one) or in Sno County. Both repeaters came up, and they hetrodyned badly - making it very difficult to understand the Fire personnel. It really sucked. If they really wanted some kind of patch, it would have made more sense to patch a Police Tac to a Fire Tac - everyone on trunking would have made more sense. For a procession, there really wasn't any need to have the ITAC-1 repeater utilized for out-of-area agencies. I didn't see any in the procession, anyway....and, it's a procession....they just have to follow the vehicle in front of them, and let the lead/tail take care of the logistics. They don't need to be involved in the radio coordination of the operation. I'm guessing that it was radio illiterates (in the field and at the comm center) that did that patch. However - with all the other crap that happened today, I did not get an opportunity to go up to NORCOM and ask why it was done that way. Just another example of how patching can be detrimental, if left in the hands of people who don't really understand the system. Brad. |

Thanks for the update Brad. Yeah I was noticing the weird feedback too from some of the fire guys. The feedback was horrible. Only the dispatcher sounded normal. Everyone else had some kind of scratchy signal. :? |

I agree with FD89; as a courtesy to those who are not local and to reduce the amount of research needed by everyone we should refrain from using acronyms to describe agencies and also indicate system and ID descriptions. |
