I’d like to upgrade my bearcat scanner to the BC 250D. My question is do any of the current trunking agencies especially on the Eastside plan to convert to digital without also encrypting? In other words is having digital capability going to be useful around here? |

I don't know the answer but I'm bumping the thread. I see that the new Uniden Bearcat 246T is now type accepted, so it's a real temptation to pull some bucks for a new radio. However, if there are major plans for the Puget Sound sysytems to go digital, I may have to rethink. Thanks Cliff |

You can be pretty well assured that anyone in Puget Sound who goes digital, is doing it so that they can go secure. Save your $$$ for now |

1.) All of the Major players - County and City - in Puget Sound have already moved to 800 Mhz trunking (Snohomish County, King County, Tacoma city) and have restricted thier use of Encryption. 2.) There are no more open 800 Mhz channels in the Puget Sound area and with the Big Switch -- from top to bottom and bottom to top - Digital is NOT the primary concern. 155.3625 is now a Statewide Digital LERN channel. Digital is down the road and around the corner -- but not next door. |

Is this 155.3625 frequency in use now? If so, does this mean that 155.3700 is no longer active... Or is the 155.3625 frequency just there for when agencies begin to upgrade equipment |

155.37 is analog - non-digital use and 155.3625 is for digital P25 use. Both are for statewide use as LERN channels (Law Enforcement Radio Network) The 155.3625 has no base stations licensed -- as of yet. This may change, but because the 155.3625 is very NEW -- it is not in wide use. YET. It will all depend on how fast the radio units can be re-programmed to ADD this frequency as a channel into the various Police radio units throughout the state. I am sure someome is using this new frequency. MTM :D |
