So I think I understand that Sumas, and Blaine PD operate on a Border Patrol frequency, and that it is digital APCO 25. Does anyone know if it is encrypted or is it just regular digital that I could get if I upgrade to a digital scanner? Thanks!

Right now Blaine PD, Blaine Border Patrol and Bellingham Border Patrol are operating on IWN talk group "Sector West" unencrypted. That is only for the time being. I believe there is also a patch in place on the Galbraith digital repeater. Will be going completely encrypted in the very near future. Lynden PD, Sumas PD and Sumas Border Patrol are operating on the Sumas repeater digital unencrypted. There have been coverage issues in the Sumas area and unknown when they will make the migration to IWN.

Ah interesting. Any idea on the time table until total encryption? And if the PD's will still be on the same freq's and encrypted. It seems ridiculous for Lynden and Sumas PD's to be encrypted. Do they really work that closely together, and is encryption really needed?
