I am just wondering if anyone knows how they number their apparatus. I know there stations are 1 to 16, but on the Sunnyside Fire Department website it says that Engine 213 from fire district 5 is housed there in addition to the city apparatus. Any help appreciated. Thanks

The Upper Valley and a couple of the cities in the Lower Valley use a 2-digit number system. The first number is what station the truck is from. The second number is what type of truck it is. 1's are 1st out engines, 2's are 2nd out engines, 5's are tenders, 6's are brush trucks, 7's are rescue rigs, 8's are ladder trucks, and 9's are rehabs. West Valley Engine 11 is the 1st out engine from West Valley Station #1. Toppenish 18 is the ladder truck out of Toppenish Station #1. West Valley 27 is the rescue rig out of West Valley Station #2 and so on....

Sunnyside Fire Department is basically the same building as YCFD5 St. 13.
Sunnyside mans the first out engine (213) on a contract basis for YCFD5. The cost of the Engine was split equally between SFD and YCFD5. That's why it appears on the City of Sunnyside website as a city apparatus and the reason it sports city colors but still maintains the YCFD5 numbering system 213's Doors. It is a 2nd out piece for the City of Sunnyside right behind Sunnyside Engine 11.

The Town of Mabton has a joint owned apparatus with YCFD5 as well and that is Engine 215 (Drivers Door 215) (Pass. Door 215)

There were also rumors of Grandview city going in on the same kind of deal but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Nick- Lower Valley Fire uses a different numbering system than the Upper Valley but mixes the two. Their unit numbers are really two things instead of three. The first digit signifies what type of apparatus it is. 2's are Engines, 8's are tenders and 6's are brush trucks. Rescue rigs are just Rescue 1 or Rescue 6. The last two is the station they are assigned to. 213 would be an engine from Station #13, which happends to be the Sunnyside Station. 206 would be an engine from Station #6 & 606 would be a brush truck from Station #6. The only ones that do not would be Wapato and Mabton. Sunnyside is unique as they are the only department in the county that has their own ambulance-medic system and transports patients. They have 3 ambulances in their dept. Lower Valley City Departments Grandview -- Grandview Engine 11, Grandview Engine 12, Grandview Engine 13, Grandview Ladder 18. Grandview has followed the same path as Mabton and Sunnyside. Grandview and YCFD5 have gone in half and half on the cost of a new engine.
