Post subject:  Police Codes - Ten Codes Clearing Codes etc

With a bunch of recent time I have had I was cleaning up about 1 thousand pages of notes collected over the years about police in the area. I am wondering if anyone can help me update my slightly old XLS

It includes Unit Numbers, Clearing Codes, Disposition Codes, Ten Codes, Districts etc I put it all into a nice format but a lot of it I would Like to update. Can the group kick in things to fix up correct etc. Please PM me any updates and I will just Update the XLS and re-upload to the first post in the thread. (or post it up)

I would really appreciate all of your data, as well as the whole community would likely. Any other departments you have data for in the northwest etc. (or any feedback if this is handy)

I cant upload the file to INW as its too large but I will update this post with the current version

50 reads and 30 downloads and no feedback? :(

If you clicked the download and it didn't work, try again I just got home from a long trip and also have a huge security paper published this month, and had to beef up my computer security to keep from getting hacked with the press. so I was rebooting and locking down IIS which may have caused some DNS failure to reply.

RE: Disposition Codes / Radio Codes

Here is a list of our current disposition codes that are given to calls and incidents. You’ll hear officers say them on the radio and see them on daily CAD printouts. They include a number followed by a letter. Each has meaning as indicated below.

Disposition Reports

1. Officer contact A. Report taken

2. Gone on arrival B. Additional report

3. Unable to locate incident/complainant C. Collision report

4. Assistance rendered D. No report

5. Referred to other agency E. Arrest / Booking

6. Referred to front desk or telephone reporting F. Juvenile referral

7. No police action required G. Warrant arrest

8. Assisted other officer / agency H. Citation or Infraction notice issued

9. False alarm / unfounded I. Field Information Report

10. Nothing found, complainant contacted J. Settled

11. Nothing found, complainant not contacted K. Evidence or property obtained

12. Incident cancelled

13. Non response

14. Broadcast to all officers by radio and/or computer message

15. Report taken by telephone

Examples: “1A” means an officer contacted complainant/victim and wrote a report.

“4D” means an officer provided help and did not write a report.

We use mostly common language on the radio… but here are a few old codes that you’ll hear:

Signal 1: Station (An officer will use this to tell dispatch she’s at the station. Or, she might say “signal 1 property” to more specifically state where she is on the Public Safety campus).

Other Signals:

2: rest room 3: coffee 4: fuel/maintenance 5: training 7: lunch 8: telephone call/msg.

Reference the Thurston County list...We use common English. Any codes we do use are from old habits, 10-42 (going home) 10-99 (lunch) (code 15) I'm ok no further assistance needed. We have a couple more, which are easy to figure out by listening, but I'm not going to divulge them. Outside of that, everything is plain English or just via MCT to the officer, low priority stuff.

Ten codes are going to be a thing in the past. SNOCOM has gotten rid of all except about 10 "ten codes" and aren't teaching the new dispatchers anything except those 10. Like pklong said, common English is the new standard. I believe the thought is that an outside agency (federal, state or city) can talk with each other without knowing their 10 codes. I also believe that the federal government played a big role in this as they have said that if an agency don't move to a "common English" talk, that they won't get government funding...besides if you have to hide what your saying you have cellphones/nextels and MDT.

Beside that, great list! I can appreciate the hard work that went into it!

thanks .. yea the DHS called out for the end of 10 codes back when they started the whole interop thing. The biggest thing that I am trying to get all sorted is the clearing codes and unit numbers as there is no real reference for that data - also that data is not confidential so it should be easy to dig all up.

Have you tried doing any public records requests? I got one back from the Port of Seattle about the trunked system, it wasn't complete (missing all the PD/FD, among other things), but they were forthcoming with the rest of the information.

Yea, I've noticed even information on this site is in-accurate in regards to unit numbers. This site says Boy units are Brier. Which may be the case for that talk group that brier units are on, but SCSO south units are also Boy units aswell.

I'm surprised that the 10 codes manual for SCSCO isn't on the internet anywhere, you would think somebody woulda posted it by now. It shouldn't be more than a public records request away. Although because of 9/11 it might not be the case anymore.

well I have a lot of contacts in LEO and after that its mostly just free time, I have contacts in KCSO SPD Snoqualmie, Bellevue and Redmond - but the issue with Snoq Bel Red is the data is in print format (meaning a huge book) and I just haven't had time yet to convert. SPD and KC have converted there stuff to PDF so that is why its already up (also I listen to them more) but with a 50+ hour job and a ton of other hobbies....

So after that I am looking for help from others to make public request for info. it comes down to time. I don't have time or a driver to request that data from far out agencies like snoCounty that I cant listen to but I do want to try and make a list for others to use, go to the county office buy stamps etc... eventually I will create pages with full data in the document but its just time - which Im looking for help from the community to speed up and help everyone.

Hook up the info from the port if you got anything that fits into this data. I will put it in.

I hope I have corrected some of the unit numbers in Seattle and KC SCSO is far out for me to pick up and I dont know the area that well - so I am looking to the community to help out so there is a more up-to date and accurate information.

As for 10 codes the Department of homeland security has set forth a statement that they must be gone to help with inter-agency communication. and DHS was only around since 9/11 so that is when about people stop using them (or start stop using them) as for the public record for example there are still codes that departments consider "not public data" its normally not hard to figure out. things that would cause panic or security issues they might obfuscate like bomb threats etc.
