I have been hearing radio testing on these frequencies all day today.. p25 digital, which is nice and clear. They appear to have set up a trunked system, and it switches between these 2 frequencies. Also the frequency of 167.0000 has been active for a while, same strength, digital and appears to maybe be a control of some sort. In use from Blaine to Everett from what I heard. They talked about different sites (140, 711, 320, 10, etc). Anybody else hearing this and maybe can help with the type of trunked system?

Looking around further on the net, I now assume this is part of the IWN system, and I assume it will be fully encrypted once operational

The system goes all the way down to Vancouver. I can hear three sites from the Portland area. Yes, they have started more testing and system setup in the last couple of weeks.

I'm trying to map out this system and what frequencies are used where. Let me know what frequencies you are hearing the 9600 baud control channel on and and P-25 voice traffic.

Yes I am in Victoria, heard both the frequencies 167.4375 & 167.6375 the same strength which was very clear from up here. I heard them talking from Everett down to probably about the Bellingham area on these frequencies. They were in P25 digital, some encryption was heard.

A question: The 9600 baud is the trunking rate am I correct, so my BC250 wont be able to follow this trunked, but it will still be able to decode the digital?

Correct. I am using my 250D to listen to the voice channels just fine. I haven't figured out how to track the system using the PRO-96 yet, but I'm working on it. The PRO-96 does have a nice feature that allows you to read the trunked system info off the data channel.

I too have demodulated the voice channels on my spanking new PRO-96. Anybody found any other channels? I heard the techs talking about needing to use/test keyloaders, and then about trying out OTAR. Hmm....
:(

I think 168.825 is another frequency on this system, up in the NW Washington area

These are part of a new federal VHF trunked system that runs along I-5. It's a sort of test project for a wide area federal trunking system with more planned in other parts of the country. You can read more about it here on the official JIWN web site;

I don't know if this traffic is being repeated on the other sites up north, but the last couple of days the radio techs are checking out mobile and hand held radio ID's with someone at a dispatch console. All the traffic is coming over 168.8875 MHz, P25 digital, no encryption.

Wierd thing is that the 168.8875 MHz voice channel is associated with the Kalama site, but the Kalama site data channel still isn't showing any system ID or activity when they talk. I guess it's just running in conventional mode for now.

I'm watching the Baw Faw Peak site data channel on 167.2625 MHz with the new PRO-96 software, but it's not showing any other system activity other than itself.

Keep watching and listening! :-)
