I am a returning scanner listener, its been a few years. I live in Redmond WA and as Im close to the police department I figured I would dust off the scanner. My scanner is a Uniden BC235XLT and I'm assuming its probably outdated. My question is what are the frequencies for Redmond? It seems I've been away a long time as I have searched this site and have found frequencies that don't make sense to me...like T and then a bunch of numbers.....

Can anyone steer me in a direction where I can get back to listening to my scanner?

The "T" frequencies listed in the database are talkgroups--part of a trunked radio system. Instead of each police department getting assigned a few frequencies of their own, all departments share a pool of frequencies as not all departments all need to talk all at the same time. This article is an excellent introduction to trunked radio systems. You'll need to dig up the manual to figure out how to program a Motorola Type II system with these frequencies and these talkgroups.

Yeah the 235xlt will still work (believe it or not) but you'll have to start memorizing the Talkgroup IDs using that scanner.

I have the Radio Shack model of that scanner and I still have it. It's great for a backup scanner.

I highly recommend a Uniden BC346xt -- it can be had for $200 or so and sometimes cheaper on E-Bay. It will not decode the digital P25 trunking -- but that isn't used much around this area (and when it is, it's mostly encrypted conversations anyway.)

The 346xt will give you a nice screen layout and it's very easy to program -- especially with FreeScan. It's a freeware program you can download.
