Officials in my county say they plan on switching to narrow band yet this year. What does this mean for analog scanners? Will they still be able to hear anything on non "trunking" frequencies?

it would be good to identify "My county"

as long as your scanner can deal with the rebrand then just wait for the vendor to release a patch for it. but if the answer is no its not compatable or no the vendor hasnt released a patch yet. you get poor modulation or dead air.

If you mean what I think you mean, narrowband has nothing to with rebranding. It simply means that channels will be 12.5 KHz wide instead of 25 KHz. The Pro-97 is supposed to be good at this, but it's not perfect. The newer Uniden models will automatically decide what mode to use (narrow or wide) depending on the frequency and range.

Scanners will hear narrow band.

The audio sounds "thinner" sometimes, like you need to turn up the volume but just can't get there.

Much of (or all of?) WSP is narrow band.

I checked 154.68 on my service monitor several years ago and it was already narrow.

One of the things to look at - is that new users may be assigned 154.6725 or 154.6875 -- and this will cause more signal noise while trying to hear 154.68. Make sure your scanner can "tune" the new frequencies and can "reject" adjacent channel noise. Make sure your scanner can receive all tone coding -- PL /DPL - CTCSS and if digital NAC Codes.
