Finally getting all settled in the new place herein Newcastle. I had a question. Who provides Fire Service to this area? I'm right off NE 44th off of I-405 near the Denny's on the hillside. So is it Renton fire or is it Bellevue Fire station 9 in Newport Hills ? As far as my reception goes, i'm actually not very imprssed. I was thinking i would get Seattle Crisp and clear. and i'm getting a spotty signal on both my Pro-97's. I have not had a chance yet to hook up my outdoor antenna for the BC780xlt as of yet.The Eastside TRS is also not coming in on either radio. Maybe i will have to just re-program the site freqs ? Port of Seattle TRS comes in good. Its odd though, cause a week ago i wa sscanning around and picked up the Snohomish County TRS perfect and now i get no signal( not locking onto a control channel) at least not in the room i have the radios. Oh well i will have to keep playing with it. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please chime in.. :D

If you're in the city of Newcastle, fire is provided by Bellevue, police by KC Sheriff. If you're in Renton, fire and PD are provided by Renton (obviously). The area right off the offramp there is Renton, but eventually you go into Newcastle. I'm not exactly sure where the boundary is -- but take a look in a Thomas Guide and you'll see.

Right on "B" Thank you. Yeah its kinda odd right here. We were told by the complex owners that its tecnically Newcastle but if you were to put Renton with the same zip 98056 it will still come to the same place. The Newcastle city limits sign is literally like a block up the street. I am guessing it is Bellevue Fire station 9 that provides our service. Maybe one day i will stop in there and ask them... :chaingun:

Random historical note -- Station 9 used to belong to King County Fire District 25. They were a stand alone department with two stations (71 & 72) that was dispatched by Bellevue. Eventually they switched to Valley Com and were stations 17 and 18. Then Bellevue annexed a chunk of their area, Newcastle incorporated, and Station 72 was transferred to Bellevue as Station 9. District 25 now contracts with Renton as Station 16. If you look at Station 9 and Renton Station 16, they look very similar in design -- that's why.

Something else you might want to remember, with automatic aid and CAD it has nothing to do with what district you live in, it is who is closer.

I was told in the future that if a Bellevue Medic unit was going in service from Evergreen Hospital Totem Lake and there is a Medic Call a block away you could see that Bellevue Medic Unit dispatched because of being the nearest. This will all be done with CAD and tracking software.

I hear ya! This weekend is looking good for that. I still don't understand why with both my pro-97's I still have
Seattle TRS system: Spotty at best. Real choppy, scratchy reception.
Eastside TRS system: This is basically deaf. I get no CC's what so ever. Somethings odd. I'm not in a poor reception area.. I should at least get seattle System clear no? Hell I can pull Snohomish TRS fine but not Eastside TRS? Makes no sense.. ARRRRRRRRRRRR :chaingun:

If I'm not mistaken, the Eastside system is planted on the hill behind you (Tiger Mtn?), so that's probably why no signal. Seattle is on top of the Columbia tower... that should be good... but I think they may use a directional antenna there, north/south only? My reception with my 30ft scanner antenna is pretty strong but still flakey at times.

Try the KC system also... that may be your best bet.

PS. I bet if you drive up to Newport Hills you'll get a perfect signal from Eastside system.

It's already happening.

TriTech CAD (Used by Eastside) has an AVL system, and at least for the Fire units, CAD will generate a response based on the unit location, capabilities and duty status. It's a complicated algorithm, but seems to be working. So theoretically, if M19 (normally stationed in Redmond) happens to be at Overlake Hospital clearing a call, they could potentially be recommended for a Medic response at Bellevue Square.

What some apparatus will do is keep themselves "busy" until they get back into their area, hence the term "available local area". That way, the CAD system will overlook them and allow the normal, first in unit to handle the call. That's so they can get back to their normal area to provide service - unless, the incident is huge or very close, then they would likely respond anyway.

Don't count on it. Newport Hills, despite being a significant "hill", has mediocre radio coverage. The prime EPSCA site is actually on Horizon Heights (east of Somerset), and the Somerset Hill shadows it enough from Newport Hills to make it a coverage issue. There is an EPSCA site on Tiger, but it's also a bit shaded (by Squak Mtn).

It's not so bad in the South part of Newport Hills, but in the area around the shopping center it isn't so good - especially when you get inside some buildings.

Though I haven't checked recently, radio's in Newport Hills are usually serviced better by Seattle or KC/VC simulcast sites. It just depends on what square foot of property you're standing on.

An fill in site for the area has been "in planning" for many years now, and will allegedly be installed at Newport Heights Elementary - however, that school is under re-construction now, and I don't know the status on the project. But, I understand it's going to be a 3 channel intelli-peter - which means it's capacity to really help out down there will be limited.

I would prefer to see EPSCA invest in a couple more simulcast sites for the area (especially downtown Bellevue), but I doubt that will happen anytime soon.

I must live right above you - I'm right above the denny's and shurgard storage, up on 116th. At about 450 feet msl. From that location, I have no problem getting ESPCA, KC/VC and Seattle control channels. I even get Apple Cove, sometimes even McDonald mountain (barely). Also even Epsca North.

I too have been wondering when they are going to build the IR site at Newport Heights. They submitted the application to Region 43 back the beginning of 2006! At that time, it was supposed to be built by the end of 2006. Looks like it will actually be 6 channels. Same channels as in use at Apple Cove, and also Ed. Hill in Redmond. I found tha interesting since I can actually recieve Apple Cove at my house and I'm less then a mile south of Newport Heights Elementary. How will interference not be an issue?

Here's the meeting minutes where they talk about the site:
http://www.region43.org/docs/800mhz/Minutes20060329.pdf

Here are the meeting slides where they actually show the 25 Dbu contours for the site:
http://www.region43.org/docs/800mhz/200 ... Slides.pdf

Maybe someone should email Alan Kominsky at Epsca and ask him about it! I would love to have the site go live as then all the local radios would affiliate with it, and just listening to the site in open mode would be a great way to track just what is going on around me.

He doesn't work there anymore.

My information comes from the Bellevue Radio Shop (not technically an EPSCA entity, but they do work together). Last I heard, it was going to be a 3 channel IR.

I don't live down there, just work there. My reception experience comes from daily usage using Motorola radios. Don't get me wrong - there is certainly "usable" signal levels in Newport Hills for operation...but, there is certainly room for improvement - especially inside and around structures, and down on the Coal Creek Parkway corridor.
