There was an incident at 240th & Pac today in the Kent area. It's not too far from the Des Moines area. I didn't have my scanner with me (seems something interesting always happens whenever I don't have one of my scanners with me) but when I got home I immediately tuned into Kent PD TAC. This was definitely the channel they were using. About the only good information that I heard was that the command post was on the East side of 240th & pac (obvious from driving by) and that they "installed a stationary camera in the open door of the motor home" I don't know what was going on, if anyone else knows, I'd love to hear. Apparently just after 13:00 "the media is here" but I didn't see anyting on KOMO/KING/KIRO. At one point they called a FWPD officer up; he was bringing some sort of camera. Sounds like they radioed the dispatcher to make this request. Since this was near the Des Moines area, there might have been a couple of Des Moines units inside the protected area, but I stayed far enough away so I don't know for sure. My question is: with 2-3 agencies responding to one event, do the officers talk through dispatchers or do they use common talkgroups? I had 36816, 40240, and 43120 unlocked but I heard nothing. Or do they use a non-trunked frequency? |

First of all, some of the PD's share primary and tactical TG's depending on the time of day. For instance, Kent and Des Moines used to be on the same TG. Now, I don't listen to the cops too much, so I'm not sure how it's handled. In any case, if there was something going on in Kent and there were other Valleycom agencies involved, they would simply switch to the appropriate TG. However, if the KCSO was also involved, you would see the primary or tactical TG patched to one of the south PSOPS TG's--like PSOPS-S1 or S2. There are a whole bunch of tactial and interop talkgroups that Valleycom can use if the need. In you situation, they may have command on one TG and using another--like a SRT tactical channel--for operations. |
