Radio techs heard discussing audio quality

I'm not sure which agency that is but it could be either Olympia PD or Olympia FD and being set up etc. by CAPCOM (Thurston County 911.) The fire side is up and running though not really used, yet, and the PD side will come on line in June once we get the new dispatcher up and trained to work police radio. So in June TAC 9 will be OPD narrowband and then Lacey and Tumwater will be remaining on what is now TAC 2.

ah ha! One of the techs was heard mentioning going over to Tac 9 that day. This one is listed as a rptr on Fir St (eastside watertower) and control points at the 911 center and Franz St in Lacey

Moved into the Lacey area not too long ago. It's my understanding that there's a handful of freqs. for oly/lacey/tumwater, but I have no ref. to 'TAC 9' anywhere....

Is the Oly trunked system for DPW only? Or does the city use it as well?

There is a State Capitol trunked system, for the campus. Not aware of any local trunked system. I'm still working on the Tac 9 discovery.

I'm not sure what the frequencies are, but I know we have had the lic. for them for some time. The main control point is the 911 center, the Fir St. is another location for tx ant. and then Franz is the 3rd tx site. Don't have a firm date, but Tac 9 will be used by Olympia Pd as their dispatch frequency. The radio traffic has increased to the point that they wanted their own dispatcher 24 hours a day 7 days a week. As soon as we have people trained up on the police dispatch side, had to hire around 10 new people to make it work, we will go live with it. The PD's can use it now, they don't, if they want for car to car or special events. As for the fire side, I have no idea what their plans are for using it, but I hear them from time to time use it for drill traffic.

We are evaluating our radio situation and in the next 5 or less years there will be some major changes of which I don't know which direction admin will go. But, sufice to say, frequencies will change, just don't know to what or what type of system will be used.

We are also not associated with the Capitol Trunked system and we have no trunked systems at CAPCOM which is the 911 center here in Thurston County.

I unfortunatly don't have a scanner, but to those that have heard it, how does it sound?

it sounded ok on 158.8575 Some narrowband can sound like crap. I believe the other one is 151.0025 but haven't heard it come up yet.

For those Olympia listeners, the go live for narrowband has been pushed back a little bit. Thought we would go live in June but now looking like July probably. Getting 10 new people trained is taking a lot of time and resources. It will probably be called TAC 9 and will be Olympia PD only.

I've got both repeaters programmed in. Not sure who's who but the FCC database has paging on one of those so I would assume that would be the new fire rprt.

Good guess. No discussions to my knowledge have occurred as to what we are going to do with the fire frequency. For now it's not really being used. The idea is if Oly get a big event it could be used if needed, though I think Oly is the only one that has it in their radios. But for now it's there...

We have hired a consultant and they have looked over our system and will give us recommendations on where to go from here. So chances are we will being going to something in the future. Don't know anything more than that at this time. Any new news I will pass it on.
