I have been noticing over the past several months that Kent has been chatting less frequently. I wonder is they are communicating more with the terminals than over air or perhaps have switched talk channels?

it strange, they do traffic stops on the disp. and sometimes there is a 911, but either kent has a lot less crime then they usta, today is just too cold for crime. or the tower down there is now a cell and not as much simulcast.. or like you said they went to MDT but i just got done reading the 2007-2011 goals for the department and they don't say anything about moving to MDT more.

A couple years back I talked with one and he showed me all the calls on the screen. My feeling is that unless it is an emergency, they are keeping things private or maybe have moved off to another freq.

I had my scanner on lockout for their channels. No idea how that happened. We'll see of they are alive now.

I doubt the mdt can completly replace the radio.
Ya just can't run code/priority and look at the screen.
Besides, the tape is a document also, hence the time stamps. Plus on CAD, there are entries of of radio traffic.

Wake up and have another cold cup of coffee. --- Several very large Police Departments have been testing to see if it was possible to "just use MDT's" for day to day operations. Long Beach, California -- the 34th largest city in the US and 5th largest in California ( 550,000 persons ) fully tested using only MDT's --- and liked the results. But officers in the field -- did NOT. If each Black & White had a new "automatic" car license plate ID system -- it may just happen.

:D :D Yes I have used a MDT/KDT system and 3 mobile radios and a portable -- all at the same time. Just mark it up to "Burke's Law". Non-police can't even use a cellphone -- while driving -- but anyone that's covered under 830 PC -- or the like -- gets to have their eyeballs and fingertips GLUED to a Data Screen and terminal. "Officer Safety" means they get to do what they don't want everyone else doing. 90% of what's on the sreen -- can be relayed by voice. The extra 10% is junk. Being a cop is a very dangerous job. But 911 telephone operators turn almost everyone into "Mack the Knife" or "Jack the guy with a bomb in his pocket". That extra 10% is based on what the 911 operator receives as "Vibes" from the caller. And it can get someone killed. It can also save a life. And the older you get -- the harder it is to drive and scan -- all at the same time. MTM

Not quite true, and you know it.

I would say that 100% could be relayed via radio, but how much of it is going to be able to be retained " on the fly" by the responding unit?..Im sure it is just as safe to have an officer/Deputy/Trooper jotting down notes with a pen and paper when they should be driving?...

You got something right...

You gotta link to some stats to back that one up?

How many years where you a 9-1-1 calltaker, and where again?

I can say, from my experience, that some calltakers do jack up some calls. I don't know why. Maybe because they get screamed at all day.
And, there are some LEA's that still do not have the luxury of a screen.
The last agency I worked at didn't.

anywhoo, just to follow up (on the original), I just had my scanner on all systems and noticed that there is a lot of usual activity on EPSCA-system for kent, I always thought they were on Vally but anywhoo. they might have switched or I just wasn't paying attn. or they just happen to be multicasing right now and im not holding the valley system long enough. All the same Kent PD is just as active as ever (petty theft and car jacking and lame ass crime non-stop) at least right now on kent primary (and for the last hour)

Kent has been communicating more using the computers in the car.

Kent Pd is very busy. Could just be the time of day your listening. It seems to be very busy at night. I often listen past 11:00pm and the acivity increases quite a bit. I in fact have noticed an increase in thier call activity over the past month or so..
