I've never heard anything like this, but then I'm not a hardcore scanner monitor. ;-) Just heard on SFD: "All units check your station printers for an important special notice." Repeated twice. Do you think it's weather related? Just before it went out, I heard (kinda in my sleep) the dispatcher asking someone for permission to put out a special notice. Can anyone fill me in on this? How common are these "Special Notice" things? How serious? Dying of curiosity, - S |

At 8:39 AM on SFD: "Special notice. Special notice. Cold weather procedures are now in effect." So that answers some of my questions! |

In my dispatch center, we route the info to the printers where we dont want to read it over the air, or tone out every department in the county. Usually Winter Storm Warning info, Hydrants that are out of service, Roads closed... ect... |

An off-duty SFD member was apparently killed in a car accident. That may have been the first special notice that went out. |

Ken - Thanks so much! That makes sense. B - Damn, that sucks. My heart goes out to those guys. We don't need to lose any more SPD or SFD members. We don't have enough as it is! Seems like a lot of deaths in general lately. I lost a casual acquaintance Tuesday morning. His motorcycle had an argument with a dump truck. At least he went out quick. Thanks for the info. |
