I'm looking for informative articles about the upper UHF 698-806MHz in the post Feb 2009 world, specifically for our Puget Sound area.

:D :D What are you looking for ?? Just basic information on how the new "700 Mhz" band will operate or what frequencies are allocated or assigned in the Puget Sound area ?? I would suggest the regional Coordination committee - but the FCC has just changed the rules and has added new "players" and services into the general plan / party.

well I've been reading alot of auctions, FCC links, and region 43 posts on what it could be and should be.

alot of the bidders sound like holding companies.
I can't figure out, is anyone moving forward and, planning infrastructure, planning coverage.

I also can't figure out how the "guard channels" are able to be auctioned off.. aren't they supposed to be clear of transissions?

how does the Public Safety/Private Partnership work? your new "widget" doesn't work if there's a fire truck near?

I've seen all the cool pdf's with their color coded channel pairs. I'm just cerious who's ganna be stomping into the puget sound with how big of a foot print.

Wiz -- I think this one is for you. --- No one knows for sure where the new 700 Mhz is going to land. As I said before --- the FCC has just changed the rules. They are now headed toward some sort of joint venture "public safety with cellphone" system -- in an "all in one" radio package. Police want a huge new crop of gadgets -- like a Dick Tracey watch with video, computor and internet -- and room for every possible new idea or product that comes down the pike. It appears -- that the new Metro area transit systems -- for King, Pierce and Snohomish Counties -- will all include -- a new "money-less" fare box system -- that will take a credit or debt card. --- The fare box -- along with everything else on or connected to the bus -- will be controlled from the "central Station" and will be able to check if a card is valid, transfer the funds and even print out a ticket. But it requires some high tech security to prevent hacking and theft. So the new systems will be the first "metro area" users on 700 Mhz. As for anything connected to the FCC --- FCC rule number One is "it's for sale". And Al Gore is the guy to thank for that. Only time will tell, how it will all play out. The region 43 group is the very best place to go for up to date info -- next to this group -- .
