A couple of nights ago I overheard the following: (names changed because I can't remember the originals) Unknown officer or fire fighter: "Miiiiiikeeeeeyyy. Wake uuuuuupppppp, Mikeeeeyyyyyy...." Dispatcher: (very quickly) "Open Mike! O-PEN MIKE!" Anybody else hear this? It was really funny! |

Sounds like 'Mikey" woke up. Open Mike: A couple years ago on I-90 around George, I heard a troop (at an accident scene) discussing the skillful winter driving skills possessed by those speeding by on a ice/ snow cover interstate. Except there were some neat words used. As in F*****g Dumb*ss's. 155.505 (R). |

I overheard the following exchange a few months back: Incoming Medic Unit: "We're bringing you a 50 year old white male, unconscious, possible alcohol poisoning." Hospital: "Lovely! Who's the good Samaritan that called him in?" Incoming Unit: "He didn't leave his name." Hospital: "Oh that's too bad, I wanted to put him on my Christmas card list!" Can't you just smell the sarcasm? |

Funny how dispatchers talk to the officers on the other end with push'in the mike pedal. And how we (LEO) talk to know one in particular. As in ' move' or 'get outta the way', etc... On an almost related note, I had a women tell me she was speeding because her kids car seat (occupied) was coming loose. ! I think I was talking to myself as I wrote her a reminder note. |

I've got audio of a SNOPAC dispatcher bitchen to what I assume is a fellow dispatcher about a deputy. See below. What I did not catch was SAM letting her know she had an open mic and thanking her for the info. A new dispatcher was on the next transmission. Attachment:

An example of women yaking on the phone. :!: Hay! I resemble that remark! I can't be the only member of the enemy sex on this forum. Aren't there any other girls that monitor police and fire? Some of my favorite dispatchers are women! - Silver |

I got a response! He-He. I'm not putting down women, I'd rather listen a female voice over the radio than a male. As a matter of fact, I'd rather look at a female than a male, as hard as it may be to believe. But it did sound like she was blabbing on the phone about something not really worthy of a second discussion. ? :?: |

Years ago in Spokane, I was listening to city fire when the aid car (they only had one back then) checked out at some location. The dispatcher acknowledged them. About 10 seconds later, the dispatcher must have put his foot on the floor PTT switch and didn't realize it! He starts talking to another dispatcher and says "man have you seen the tires on that thing" other guy must have asked on what cuz his next sentence was, "on 59. Man, those things are so bad, I wouldn't put them on my wifes car"! Pretty soon you heard the phone ring and he was saying "I got a what, an open mic"? then "oh" and then end of transmission. Ah those little slips that keep us listening! |

She's a pretty good gal, but I think your comment pretty much sums it all up... BTW: My dream shift at work ( and they all already know it)...All males... Less drauma. I dont know any dispatcher that has not had an open mic at least once or twice... A couple years ago, Myself and " The Dragon lady" were doing some training, and I was plugged in with her... We have this little silver box (transmit switch) that the tech wired up, and it ended up sticking open... I was lucky enough to have a training switch on my mic, so I ran muted...Poor dragon had almost 30 min's of us talking about her garden, and the quality of Poop. :D |
