I was in the city of Snohomish last night watching a hot air balloon. He was using the frequency of 461.3875 to talk to the ground control. He was also have problems controlling his balloon

I think they use anther freq but I can't remember what it is

:D If you got to within a mile of the prison -- you would be doing both -------- in your pants. You would also be "ducking for cover" as the hot lead goes by -- trying to shoot "the balloon Down"..

nope, it's not in the SOP anymore to shoot at any aircraft, only if it lands.
They did away with that one.

There's actually only 3 places in Western Washington where it is illegal to overfly, and legally they could shoot you down. Anyone know what they are? (Give you a hint - they are called TFR's, and they are all military installations).

Well, the most obvious would be the Bangor Sub Base (P-51) - however, my secional says the restriction is "to but not including 2500". I have a friend that flies ILS, and he has been routed right over the base before above that altitude.

The others could be Indian Island ("avoid flight at and below 2900' MSL in this area"), Naval Station Everett ("avoid flight at and below 1900' MSL), and Bremerton Naval Shipyard ("avoid flight at and below 2900' MSL). It would probably take a seriously boneheaded act to get any rounds thrown at you in these areas.

There are several other "R" (restricted) zones around the area, but they are usually clear to enter once you contact the controlling center. I didn't see any new or pertinent NOTAMS on the FAA site.

I'd be most concerned about the Bangor Sub Base incursions...It's the only Prohibited airspace around here.

Good job! You got it.. I was thinking of Bangor, Everett, and Indian Island (which is a little known naval ammunition depot). But you're right, Bremerton might be on there now too (notice it's all navy?)

Believe me, what the the first responders are carry-ing will be laughed at with the exception of what is mounted on the side of boat at PSNS, even then it's range of fire doesn't allow for AA, unless you are super studly and can shoulder fire a Ma Deuce. The guys on the boats are sleeping or having sex with thier partner.
