Yeah, they are doing that every where now do to NIMS they want every one to be alike in case of mutal aid they've also changed the apperatis numbers ours used to be for example ( 345 was 3 = District 4 = Station 5 = Tender) they've kept the district numbers and station numbers and drop'd apperatis numbers but now they just say what type of apperatis like Aid 32 3 = district 2 = station, Engine 33 3 = District 3 = Station Ect Ect, give them a few months and they all will probably change again.. |

I, don't know renton, all i heard in my fire training is they were talking about this going on all over the place, it might just be out here in clallam county but i heard on the scanner jefferson county useing the two number system. but it wouldn't surprise me to see them doing this all over the U.S, it sounds like a pretty good idea.. |

Snohomish County got rid of the three digit numbering system about 10 years ago. The County numbered every fire station in the county from 1 to 99 . Some Depts. were able to keep there origional numbers like Everett and Fire District 7. |

right, we've been using the station numbers and district numbers for years they just finaly did away with the apperatis numbers that they were using for years, so yes we are down to the two number system, i think it's going to continue through out the U.S from what i hear. any one else using the two number system that you know of firedawg?? other then Snohomish |

Whatcom County will be switching to the two digit numbers very soon. Most apparatus already have them, however on the radio they are still using the old numbers. It will be like Sno Co. each station in the county numbered with corresponding apparatus. |

I'm sorry I did not make myself clear, Snohomish County startinging with Everett Fire Stations 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, with apparatus numbered the same. The first Dept. with 2 digits is Edmonds Station 10, Apparatus assigned, same number. Snohomish County Fire District 7 boarders the following and does Automatic Aid & Mutual Aid with the following Depts. and they all have differant numbers. Snohomish County Fire District 1, Everett Fire, Snohomish County Fire District 10, Bothell Fire, Woodinville Fire, Snohomish County Fire District 3, Snohomish County Fire District 4, and DNR. The County just picked a Dept to start, and Everett being one of the bigest in the county. District 7 kept there numbers, a Dept like District 3 & 4 30's and 40's made sence. So lake Stevens Fire District 8 would have Stations and Apparatus numbered in the 80's. |

The only reason Bellevue is not a two digit numbering system is because they are the same example as Everett, they start at Number 1, and the numbering system goes in numerical order North and arround Lake Washington to the South to Shoreline. Shoreline is in the 60's but has nothing to do with what Dept. they are. They are King County Fire District # 4 |

GREAT post from ericsdaddy. Very informative to someone new to the area! Say... will you take it one step further and post which talkgroups each station is dispatched on. I'm concerned mostly w/ Everett and south to include Lynnwood, Mukilteo, Edmonds, MLT etc. I know I've found all the TG's but the channel assignments are confusing to me as some are dispatched on TAC channels... dispatch five, West response... East Response. I haven't quite "got it" yet. Am I the only one who thinks the county fire districts/dispatch assignments could have been aranged much better than they currently are? Must make mutual aid a pain in the back end. Thanks in advance! |

Not quite correct. City of Snoqualmie is Station 281. Fall City is Station 271. Snoqualmie Pass is Station 291. Skykomish is Stations 295 and 296. Some of these numbers are from back when Control 10 existed. Fall City was originally Station 171, Snoqualmie Station 181, etc. Then when Zone 2 was created, they went up to 271, 281. Originally they used four digit numbers, so Engine 271 was "2711" and Aid 271 was "2713." No unit identifiers (i.e. engine, aid, tender) were used on the air; they only used numbers. They dumped that in the mid 90's and went back to calling them Engine, Aid, etc. Then Control 10 consolidated with Bellevue, and some of them kept the Station numbers. EF&R took the 70's (which had been vacated by Dist. 25 when they contracted with Renton) and the 80's. Enumclaw uses 4 digit identifiers with the first two digits being 28, since they are King County District 28. And Port of Seattle still uses the old three digit numbering scheme that everybody else in the former Zone 4 started using in the early 90's and has since dropped when they went to Valley Com. It's actually kind of amazing to think about how many times some Stations have changed numbers in the last 20 or so years. That information could easily take up a huge post of its own. |
