I have been told that Medic 12 is in the Black Diamond area. Is this correct?
Also, can anyone advise where Medic 13 is based? I heard Valley Comm dispatch it the other evening to the Des Moines/Normandy Park area.
Many thanks,

Medic 12 is located at Station 98 near Lake Sawyer and covers Black Diamond and Enumclaw along with the Maple Valley area with Medic 11.

Medic 13 is based at South King Fire Station 26 in Des Moines and covers the Des Moines area along with the North Federal Way area. They will also help cover areas for Medic 4 and 7 in the Sea Tac and Burien areas.

Actually, M12 is no longer quartered at Black Diamond Station 98. It is now located at District 44(Mountain View Fire and Rescue) Station 94. It was moved about a year or so ago. This was becasue King County EMS identified that an ALS unit needed to closer to the greater Enumclaw area.

M13 will indeed provide back-up for medics 4,7 and 8. In fact, medic 13 (when in-service) will be first-due in all of Des Moines, West Hill Kent, North Federal Way and first due in Normandy Park and South Burien.

King County will also be making some adjustments to other medic units. See the following link (page-6) for more information:

Medics 5 & 7 will be moved to other quarters. Medic 5 is currenlty quartered at Renton Station 14 and Medic 7 is located at Kent Station 76.

Where are they plan to move medic five too? Let me guess to King County Dist 20 Station 22 because it's getting remodel. Also it's a better location to serve Renton, Tukwila, and Skyway.

I'm not sure where there going to move M-5. I've not talked to any medics yet about it.

I don't see them moving to Skyway, because that would be too far for M-5 to get to Fairwood and other parts of Renton. Remember, M-5 is first-due in parts of Eastside Fire and Rescue.

Also, M-4 is first-due for most of Tukwila.

Time will tell...

What about Renton station 13

How about this scenario for the medic units,

Move Medic 5 or 7 to Renton Fire Station 12

Move Medic 5 or 7 to Renton Fire Station 14

A new Medic unit to Kent Fire Station 77

A new Medic unit at Kent Fire Station 71

Move Medic 6 to Auburn Fire Station 32

Just a thought......................................

Can't see any of that happening, except maybe M-7 moving to Station 14. That wouldn't be too far to travel within the Kent Valley.

But theres no way two new medic units will be put into service--especially at Kent Station 77.

First and foremost, any recommendation to put new rigs in service is based on call volumes determined by geo data. Before you see any new medic units going in service, you'll see part time units going to 24 hour coverage.

So, M-13 was just put into service as a 12-hour peak unit. That unit would be transitioned to a 24 hour care FIRST prior to any new units.

And, a potential transition to a 24 hour care hasn't even been projected yet by King County EMS. We won't have any idea what King County will do next until there next Stategic Planning phase.

One thing you may see in the next 5 years, depending on mergers and/or consolodations, is the transition of the South King County ALS sub-group into one particular department.

Which one you ask?

Well, if I had to put money on it, I would venture to say that South King Fire and Rescue will be the department. IF there are additional mergers and South King grows a bit bigger (say to 8-10+ stations), it would be reasonable that they would assume ALS and manage the program, rather the King County.

Some of you may know that a ALS feasability study was conducted by Federal Way and Kent to determine if one or both of them could take on ALS services.

Based on strong opposition from the King County Paramedics Union, the study determined that it would not be in the best interest to split the program into two distinct ALS programs, managed by Federal Way and Kent. The paramedics union asserted that they must be kept as one entity or they would not be in favor of what was called the "two service providers option."

The study recommended to KC EMS that things should stay the way they are: Keeping the program whole.

Medic 5 is station at Station 14. FYI Station 12 has three bay. It houses Engine 12, Aid 12, and Drive 12. There has been talk about putting in a another station somewhere in the Kennydale area to help with coverage. Station 12 is also the city's emergancy HQ for the city like a flood or some other disater. That's for Fire, Police, and etc.

No Medic Unit could be put at Station 32. Station 32 is a 4 bay station and has Engines 32 and 321 and Aids 32 and 321. Station 31 is the most logical place for a medic unit in Auburn. Putting a medic unit at Station 32 would make the medic unit to far away for fast response to North Auburn.

Remember folks, a stations apparatus capacity has nothing to do with where a medic unit goes. Call volumes do...

Hypothetically, If it was determined that Renton Station 12 was the best place to put a medic unit, then you'd see a medic unit at Station 12. Room would be made to accomodate it. And if there wasn't enough space for crew quarters, then a mobile home would be placed next to the station. This is what M-4 & M-6 are currently doing.
