Listening to Snohomish county system I overheard technicians talking about work they are doing on their system. They are working on digital channels. I don't know anything else about that, but if you have receivers capable of receiving digital channels, there may be traffic soon.

I heard the information on talk groups 61328 and 49648 today .

During the test phases, there may be some digtal traffic in the clear...however, once operational all digital traffic is likely to be encrypted. The digital scanner won't help you in that case. Enjoy it while it lasts...

So what might be digital? or will it be the normal, "few" PD channels for sensitive info? Or will it be "all PD Traffic""???

The SnoCo system only uses digital for SWAT and Investigative traffic. Very little traffic overall is digital/encrypted.

To verify -- All Tacoma PD Talkgroups are "Digital" or "Digital - encypted" -- except for both Patrol-Dispach channels -- North & South and two Tac-channels ??? What about Tacoma Fire and other city services ???

All tacoma pd talkgroups are digital encypted except the patrol dispatch channels.

Tacoma fire and other city services are analog.

Is the scanning hobby (of listening to FD and PD) disappearing faster than we would like? Is it just a matter of time? I hope not as it is enjoyed by many responsible people. Just my opinion.

It depends on location. I don't live in an area that uses trunking or digital format, yet. I have been thinking of buying a digital scanner to the areas I visit or at least one that can be re-banded when that occurs . I loaded in Benton Co TRS in my FT 60 and can listen within reason but for a larger system I'm out of luck. I think some of those agencies will wish they had stayed on 'legacy' systems IMO.
