All-

Is there a good site that gives a list of police radio codes commonly used in Washington state, specificly King County? I know all the standard 10 codes etc , I am interested in for example an officers use of triple 2 or "222" relating to a DOA. Where could I find this information? Thanks for any input.

I havent found a decent list of codes either. From listening to the King County Seatac police I figure a 222 is a homicide.

Tricky thing is every agency has their own versions of radio codes...that's what makes them a 'code' I suppose. There are some standards like 10-97 (I've arrived) and 10-20 (where in the world are you anyways?). You can usually figure it out if you listen and pay attention.

I hate to nitpick, but those don't match any of the King County codes I've ever heard. Unit numbers either. And what Parish are we speaking of? You may have accidentally selected the wrong file, fat fingers syndrome :)

I Also dont see anything for 222 .. Any ideas? I know it was not Homoside because no detectives were dispatched to the scene. Its a toss up between suiside and natural death or maybe just dead body? Any ideas. Thanks again for all the responses.

All-

I am pretty sure that most codes provided here are not used in King County. I know for sure that 10-60 and 10-61 refer to no warrents/warrents and that is not listed... some of the other codes dont look right either. Are there any other lists or suggestions to find an accurate list for king county? Thanks again.

Actually, homicide is a homicide.

The FCR code 222 refers to "death investigation" and is not more specific.

Those codes posted initially have nothing to do with King County if you mean the Sheriff's Office.

The KCSO and SPD use a "Clearing" code NOT a Dispatch code. Its to be used at the END of a call to allow the dispatch center to record the response to a call. THE SPD uses a "MIR" code and KCSO uses a "FCR" code but they are both "Clearance Codes - not dispatch codes. The 10 code, 11 code and list are from California. It isn't used in King County. I beleive that both the MIR and FCR codes are listed on this site. "220" is a mental problem, becuase SPD takes the subject to Harborview Hospital - ROOM 220. Who said COPs can't laugh. As for code 222 its a Death Investigation. It covers all deaths. KCSO does have its own version of a ten code -- but not often used. Half the fun of listening to Police Calls is trying to "Decode" the police jargon. Learn to love the sport. Its fun.

Some of the FCR codes are also used to dispatch a call without identifying it by name - especially a rape or death investigation.

As an example...

2C67 a 222 in the C7...

2C67

Address and information here...

Actually, the fourteen 10 codes KCSO uses are used almost universally and most frequently.

10-4, 10-7, 10-8, 10-9, 10-12, 10-33, 10-55, 10-60, 10-61, 10-62, 10-63, 10-65, 10-66, 10-97 and sometimes 10-98.

This is an urban legend that persists...

There are two versions of the story of the origin of 220 that I have heard.

One involves the room 220, which doesn't exist - the other involves the cost of a mental health committment, rumored to be $2.20 when the code came about.

Either way, the word 220 is widely recognized in Washington law enforcement, much the same way 5150 is recognized in California.

:D :D Room 220 DID exist, afterall that was back in the dark ages when "220" was FIRST used - 10 - 15 years PRIOR to the MIR codes even being used. "220" was a code of its own - prior to any other codes. That is because "room 220" was real. In fact a MOVIE was made about Seattle and King County Mental Health and the "Crisis Call Line". The mental ward has moved since then and room "220" no longer is where it WAS. But Room 220 was real. Where did THE 10 code come from. In fact - The FCC it self. Section 10 was the First section code used for radio. Now its section part 90. It was part 89 just 15 years ago. So the FCC invented the ten code but NOT the "Breaker, Breaker Good Buddy" part. As far as use of "TWO" King County FCR codes used as a Dispatch code, that is NOT a written procedure of the Dept - but an operator invented practice that is NOT a departimental written procedure -- nor is it authorized. But since what happened in New York on 9-11, COPS are as afaid of the bad guys like everyone else. They are hiding in the woods with big foot and could attack tomorrow. Granted you found two and maybe two or two hundred more codes that could be used as dispatch codes -- but they are clearance codes per written County policy. Don't you trust your local Police ????

It's been done for at least 20 years- in fact it was done when 222 was actually called 664. Your experience may vary. As for authorization - your experience may vary as well - but common practice establishes a great deal of operations in the Sheriff's Office.

As much as I trust myself, as I be one of those local police.
