The group has been having a round at this subject -- (See the Mountain View Fire thread). The bottom line is TAX MONEY -- fire commissioners and fire chiefs keeping control or a job -- versus any better service. Most of the public do not know, care or understand what a independent "county service district" is or does. Anyone can form a non-profit corporation or local improvement distict. I do this as part of my occupation. --- The "911" phone system was not started to provide better service -- only to save money --- for the telephone companies (New York Bell). In fact -- the phone company Makes money by charging the public for all of the equipment that runs 911. Just look at your own telephone bill. Districts will merge and new districts will form. This happens when real estate is very good and very poor. It's a matter of money and control. Not always better service. However -- a unified radio system -- trunked or non-trunked -- does assist in helping to "join" all "districts" into a unified joint service that works better and costs less. Being a scanner geek has one benefit that most never think about. It makes you more aware of your government and how it works or doesn't work. MTM
