I'm guessing that the 2005 Blue Angel freqs will again be in use for 2006. Microvolt Radio has a nice summary of them on his website:
http://www.microvoltradio.com/blue_angels.htm

Note the frequencies in 2005 did change from the ones in use during 2004.

I also found this great article on monitoring Military air shows:
http://www.monitoringtimes.com/html/mtairshow06.pdf
And is has a great write up on the Blue Angels as well.

I think they actually arrive today and will be out practicing for the first time tomorrow - happy listening!

Now, I have to say - this was FUNNY: http://www.microvoltradio.com/bluecard.htm

Post subject:  Scanner store in Seattle

Ok, so the today (Wednesday) at the last minute I fired up the old Radio Shack scanner (PRO-51) I borrowed from a friend.... and discovered it doesn't have the mid-250mhz range that it appears the Blue Angels are on. So much for proper planning!! :)

So, I hate to let down myself and friends whom I've promised can listen to the BA this weekend! (The Thunderbirds mp3 on the web sounded very cool!)

My new house overlooks the Sayer's boat pit on Lake Washington, so, I'm thinking of buying a scanner for this weekend... I'll resist the temptation to return it to the vendor on Monday! I'll use it next year...

It appears that Radio Shack sells a Pro-2055 that would work (if it's in stock!)

Or, I can order a BearCat Thursday for a Friday delivery from Amazon. Which one, though?

Any other suggestions? Where to buy, what to buy NOW?

If you have one you want to loan me, let me know!

I'd like to learn how to use whatever I get Thursday, or Friday. (Heck, if you want to come over Friday to my deck over looking the lake and watch the mid-day practice show, let me know! Bring your earplugs; we're on a street that is close enough in to get blocked off for the weekend!

I'm an inactive ham, so I can handle the technology. I doubt I'm going to get into other monitoring other than the BA, so I don’t need the fancy modern stuff!!.

Thanks in advance!!!

Tom, AF7Q (55 year old married man.

Hey Tom - well I hope you find a good scanner! This will actually be my first year monitoring the BA so I'm anxious to find out what I'll hear.

Indeed - many scanners don't get the Mil Air bands.. I figured that out too AFTER I bought my Pro-95 (GREAT scanner, gets Seattle Police & Fire etc terrific) but doesn't get the 200-300 mhz bands. UNTIL - I discovered the WIN95 program from Starrsoft (http://www.starrsoft.com/freeware/win95/default.asp)
It's free as well, which is nice. Program let's you enter anything from 5 khz to 1.3Ghz and then you upload to your scanner. We'll see if it works.

I would join you on your deck but I'll be on my boat on the logboom - should be a great show!

Thanks, Andrecs!

I think I'll take a drive over to Radio Shack and see if they've got any of the PRO-97's in stock.

Have you found that the scanner is fast enough (is it called "Close Call") to grab the BA freqs at the start of a show, or do you just scan the expected freqs, or the entire band, or ???

Don't forget your suntan lotion this weekend!

I enjoy the first practice day (Thursday) the most. The boys are almost chatty as they pick out their landmarks.

Post subject:  Got the PRO-97 today

So, having the PRO-97, I've got some studying to do. I got the cable and will try the Starrsoft program.

I'm quite excited to play with the thing tonight, and a bit nervous that I'll mess up and miss the Blue Angels.

Any suggestions are welcome.

Tom

:D Please re-check those sources. None of those listed frequencies are used at Seafair or the boat races in Seattle. The list appears to be a from some military base --- not Seafair in Seattle. A few of the frequencies are USFS channels.

Hmm. Almost all of those are reported good frequencies for the Blue Angels within the past two years. Several of them were used today!

So they are "Blue Angel" channels - used at Seafair -- not Seafair operations channels.
