One of the more interesting patches ever seen with the trunked system happened last night at the SeaTac school fire. It went to 3 alarms plus 2 engine company strike teams, 1 of which was from Pierce County. OPS 1 was patched to MA Zone 3, which was then patched to 153.830, so the Pierce County units could talk to the IC directly. Nice to see ValleyCom knowing how to use the trunked system's versatility.

Where does ValleyCom still have receivers on 153.83 around their area?

153.830 is not just for Pierce County OP 1, it is the statewide mutual aid channel known as "RedNet" or "Firecom" to be used for communications when multiple departments are responding to the incident. Some departments use it as a spare tactical channel.
There were no Pierce County units at the scene last night and the 2 engine company strike teams were from Seattle as they sent 1 Battallion Chief (B-5), 1 Medic Unit (M-32), Rescue 14, Engines 13, 22 & 26 and Ladders 3, 7 & 11.
The Seattle units may not have had either Valley Comm Fire 5 or Mutual Aid Zone 3 talk groups programmed on there radios that is why it was patched to 153.830.
This frequency of 153.830 works out great when the units from the westside of the state go east to help with large brush or forest fires.

There were Pierce County units on the scene of the fire Sunday night -- hence the reason for the patch to RedNet. An engine company strike team was requested and responded from Zone 6, which is Pierce County. It consisted of Milton, Edgewood, Puyallup, Riverside, Sumner, and Buckley Fire units. "Strike Team 6001" was heard on the air responding to an arriving at the fire.

All SFD units had trunked radios and were on MA Zone 3. OPS 1 is a ValleyCom talkgroup that was patched to MA Zone 3.

The medic unit Seattle sent was actually medic 1 not medic 32.

None of the news reports have any Pierce County units being there.

What were the numbers of the units from PC that responded?

Not sure if they were on the original tone out or second alarm but the Port of Seattle sent engine 711 along with a command officer but it was not command 700.
