Hey all. I jumped on the Sirius bandwagon awhile back and have a question. For the FM transmitter-to-car-radio freq, I've been using 91.5, and lately the interference on there is getting bad. What freq(s) are the rest of you using? |

The lower -- the better. If your unit will go down to 87.9 or lower -- do so. The FCC is getting lots of "noise" from the public as well as local broadcasters -- all over the country. Some radio engineers say that some of the "mini-transmitters" are over-powered. The public is not happy either. Lots of problems -- while your driving along -- and someone else pulls along side -- using the same radio frequency. |

someone in our neighborhood had it on 93.1, kept broadcasting sirrius old time radio for over a week, then it disapeered/vhanged freq? I was picking it up in my truck for 2 miles away. Suspect they were on the hill nearby. |

I "yardcast" my XM radio on 87.9 using a Ramsey FM30 transmitter. Even at the lowest power setting, the signal is full quieting for a 1/2 mile radius. I haven't found a good frequency for use in the car that works everywhere without interference. Using your car radio is a lame technological solution but it sort of works. It would be nice if car audio systems would all come equipped with RCA phono jacks for direct connection to your sat receiver or other audio gear. |

That may happen. Maybe not soon --. The NAB and other broadcasters -- as well as the FCC itself -- do not like the idea of having millions of 'mini FM broadcast stations" in cars. The only downside of using 87.9 or lower is hearing TV channel 6 -- if you are close by. However -- the lower TV channels are being given up for better HDTV Channels. I think Mark might be hearing TV 6 in Canada or a low powered TV 6 translator. IF some group requests that the FCC assign TV channels 5 and 6 to FM Broadcast stations --- the idea of assigning a few channels for "personal low powered / wireless - relay stations" so that consumers would be able to select a useable - clear frequency for such devices -- might also be proposed. MTM said it first !!!! |
